PEER TUTOR

A privately funded initiative that is aimed at supporting students put their ideas and thoughts together and improve their reading and writing skills.  Peer tutors are responsible for;

  • supporting students with reading strategies to handle courseware
  • supporting students improve their academic writing skills
  • to manage own WURU group sessions i.e. csupport club for first year students that help them settle into the academic domain
  • to co-facilitate tutorials in BEd core courses

Acquired 1 year’s worth of teaching experience from Allanridge Secondary, Midrand High and Ponelopele High school as part of the practical component of the Bachelor’s of Education programme.

  • Subjects taught during the BEd Teaching Experience programme: EMS at grade 8 and 9 levels; Life Orientation at grade 9 and 10 and Economics at grade 10 to 12. 
  • I have a keen interest in teaching Tourism and Business Studies in the FET.

In inititative of Virgin Unite, a subsidiary of the Virgin Group of companies.  The centre provided a hub for entrepreneurial development and support through training, networking and accessing markets.  My core roles entailed;

Learnership Trainer

Tourvest Travel Services is one of the leading travel companies in South Africa.  The organisation had a 12 month learnership programme, as learnership trainer my role included;

  • To facilitate a 12 months THETA (currently CATHSSETA)  learnership programme
  • To coordinate the training schedules of 34 participants in Johannesburg and Cape Town
  • To liase with stakeholders regarding the absorption and coaching of students
  • To ensure the competion of the National Certificate in General Travel (NQF5) at the end of the programme
  • To administer the SETA Learner Management System (LMS) to ensure up to date reporting
  • General adhoc duties that relate to this project

These important skills include communication, computing, planning, leading, organising, controling and scheduling organisational operations.

This entails supporting students improve their reading, writing and study skills

TEACHING AND FACILITATION SKILLS

This includes setting up clear training objectives, clear instruction, providing a safe and inclusive space, managing time and being flexible

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

An active committee-member at SAPNA and currently heading the Community Development division of this NGO.

RESEARCH AND WRITING SKILLS

This entails the conceptualising of ideas, researching and gathering information as well as writing and editing reports and proposals

COURSEWARE DESIGNER

Skilled in the designing of instructional material for online and face-to-face training workshops.
