Turaco Conservation Management

Turaco Conservation Management was established in April 2016 as a for-profit  private            conservation enterprise. The company successfully completed two firebreaks as a independent contractor under the supervision of Pinnacle Conservation from April 1st 2016 to May 31 st 2016 in Heiderand, Western Cape, South Africa.

Some of the responsibilities during the contract included:

* Clearing of all indigenous and alien plants species by mechanical means in areas of 30,000 square meters respectively.

* Management of 10 staff members.

* Onsite environmental education 

* Health & Safety briefings

Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

Mainly assisted with:

  • Mass capture operations, capture and transportation of rare and dangerous game and predator species incl. Sable, Roan, Tsessebe, Rhinoceros, Buffalo, Cheetah, Lion, Leopard and African Wild Dog.
  • The clearing of vegetation off electric fences, manually and with herbicide.
  • The cleaning, general maintenance and management of bomas and boma kept predators incl. Cheetahs and African Wild Dogs.
  • Hunting of suitable animals for feeding of boma predators.
  • Occasional guided horse trails in a predator-free zone.
  • The planning and execution of an environmental education program   for children 16 and younger.
  • General maintenance duties at staff housing and main lodge.
  • Fighting of veldfires.
  • Aerial game census.
  • Radio tracking of Wilddog and Cheetah.
  • Vegetation surveys and soil profiling
  • Alien vegetation management

 Further assisted Researchers and filmcrews with fieldwork which included:

  • The setting up and maintenance of camera traps
  • Small mammal trapping
  • Aardvark capture

Jukani Predator Park
  • Cleaning of large predator enclosures
  • Feeding of domestic animals and cleaning of their enclosures.
