Objective

I hope to become an individual that has a focus in both International Studies and Mandarin Chinese. I am especially interested in helping my students become globally aware citizens and multicultural individuals that can adapt to the modern and future world. Through this mutual understanding, I believe that the next generation will be able to successfully thrive in society.

Student Teacher

Highlander Way Middle School

As a student teacher I plan daily lessons for multiple classes, push the students to perform higher order thinking, and continually push myself to become a successful and influential educator. I also created a SMART goal in order to better gauge my students' learning and successes in my classroom. I served as the 7th grade boy’s basketball head coach and ran a weekly after school Chinese Language Club. In the Chinese Language Club, I push the students to work through a simulation-based classroom to promote authentic language learning that will be relevant toimproving their language and fluency.

This position included daily interactions with Korean businessmen who were studying to improve their English language proficiency. As their teacher, I was required to cover the material and supplement the lessons with my own creative ideas for the clients.

This placement included 4 hours of observation per week in a high school classroom. The observation hours included teaching specific lessons over select topics, including classical republicanism and being an active member of the Civics classroom.

Language Group Facilitator

Michigan State University Chinese Conversation Club

Groups of American and Chinese students came together for linguistic cultural exchange. This experience allowed for opportunities to both learn and teach language to each other. After participating for two years, I was appointed as Language Group Facilitator where I oversaw group activities and ensured that the time was efficiently spent exchanging cultural differences and improving language.

This placement included 2 hours of observation per week at a middle school charter academy in Lansing, MI. Observation hours included opportunities to tutor one-on-one with students from a variety of classrooms including Social Studies, English, and Mathematics. I also worked to be an active member of the teachers’ classrooms.
