Epics & Team Projects

EPICS I: Mountain Language Institute Residential Building - Researched and designed a residential building to accommodate 20-25 international students. Responsibilities included research into climate control systems and economic energy costs for the building, utilized BEopt software to estimate energy costs, standardized formatting of documents, cohesiveness of final report, development and organization of tables and graphs.

EPICS II: Algae to Biodiesel Production – researched and designed an industrial process for converting 10,000 lbs. of algae into biodiesel to be used as an additive to petroleum based diesel. Responsibilities included research on possible processes including hydrothermal liquefaction, types of algae to use, and formatting / revisions of final document.

EPICS II: Hydroxyapatite Production – researched and developed a process for producing hydroxyapatite, a compound used in bone marrow transplants and vitamin supplements. Responsibilities included Team Leader, delegation of assignments to team memebers, development of Process Flow Diagram (mass and energy balances, flow rates, etc.), research on governing reactions and feedstock materials.
