I am a Landscape Architect and I love it. I find the field and the work to be satisfying. As much as I love my work, my family has priority, which has caused a little oddness in my work schedule. But when I am not designing, then I miss it, so I always come back. From a young age, I remember my mother saying that it was difficult to make a living as an artist. So as I considered careers, I looked for possibilities where I could focus my artistic nature. From there I started to fall in love with design. I love the thought of making a difference in the world, bringing a smile to people's faces, and being able to look at something and say, "I helped to do that." I love the whole process from talking to clients, brainstorming, problem solving, and the collaboration of minds. Design is a process, sometimes short, sometimes long, but always unique and exciting. I look for opportunities to design wherever I go. Its an addictions and it is fabulous.
It always amazes me what the computers can do. The duplication, manipulation, turning a flat plan into a simple 3-D wire frame, with just a few clicks. I love the ability to create a drawing which is detailed, clean, and legible. I look at a drawing package almost like a living entity. It is so worth the time to have a clean, functional base drawing at the start. The initial effort is always worth it when I go to make changes during the process and everything moves and flows in an easy, simple manner.
So, when I'm not working as a professional, then I've just got to find another outlet for my creative juices. I love trying new things and pushing my abilities, always challenging myself a little more. I'm never short of projects, I'm only short of time and resources.
