Deputy Chair

Innovative NFP health StartUp providing #FOAMEd (Free Open Access Medical Education) to prevocational medical trainees (Interns and Residents) with a regular user base of 10,000 plus and key supporters in the Australian Medical Association and Avant Mutual Insurance.  My role has been both to provide governance support and strategice direction as well as to oversight the technical and IT issues, which include a website, podcasts and native app.

Advisor / Investor

Med Apps mission is to help every health professional feel capable, confident and efficient in their work.  It concentrates on app development to streamline the work of trainee health professionals.  I have been responsible for advising on early startup matters, governance systems for customers as well as developing several leads with health services.  The Thinksulin App was a critical lead generated with the Agency for Clinical Innovation and is a finalist in the 2018 NSW Health Awards

Member International Clinician Educators Board

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a recognized world leader in medical training and capability development.  I was invited to join its International Clinician Educators Board in 2012.  This appointment has provided me access to an international network of esteemed medical educators.

Board Member and Deputy Chair

Peak body for prevocational medical education and training matters in Australia and New Zealand. CPMEC supports the work of clinical educators, junior doctors, clinical supervisors, medical students, medical education staff  and other stakeholders in prevocational medical education. In 2013 CPMEC was defunded by the Commonwealth Government.  As a Board Member and Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee I was able to steer the Council through a difficult period and implement a strategic review to enable the core functions of the organization to continue.  Unfortunately, this led to a difficult but necessary choice to reduce staffing profile. I was proud that the Council was able to make this decision but also to enact it in a respectful way.

I am deeply familiar with a number of information technology platforms, web applications and content management services.  I have personally developed and oversighted a number of websites, as well as a mobile application.  I have some basic coding skills.

Executive Medical Director

My role purpose was to equip NSW doctors for patient centred care through postgraduate medical education and training.
I Led and directed the Medical Portfolio of HETI and was a member of HETI Executive and Management Team.

As an Executive I took particular responsibility for organizational culture development, branding & marketing as well as the development and implementation of strategy.

I effectively managed a team of over 30 staff and fractional senior medical staff and monitoring budgets in excess of $14 million per annum.

Key Outcomes:

  • overhaul of the process of allocation & accreditation of NSW medical interns with close to 1000 intern positions provided on an annual basis and accreditation administration burden reduced by 33% with no compromise in quality and safety
  • hosting the successful ANZMET2014 Forum in the Hunter Valley
  • completion of the Medical Portfolio Programs Review: Equipping NSW Doctors for Patient Centred Care
  • establishment of the NSW Aboriginal Trainee Doctors Forum (first of its kind in Australia)
  • establishment of Medical Administration & Radiology Training Networks for NSW
