Process Safety Engineer


Joined GSK, number one pharmaceutical of Pakistan, as an Assistant Manager. Core responsibilities are:

  • Responsible to look after the Process Safety aspects of overall plant.
  • Performing duties as lead of Tablet Manufacturing, Liquid Manufacturing and Engineering block.
  • Performing Process Safety Risk analysis of chemicals. Identifying existing controls and proposing the additional controls needed to mitigate the like hood of incident/accident.
  • Enhancing the incident and accident promotion culture throughout site. In depth gap analysis of factories act/regulatory requirement applicable to the industry.
  • Identifying the gaps between the established system and global GSK EHS management system.
  • Conducted risk assessment for Laboratory waste management.
  • Coaching laboratory team with regards to Material Compatibility and storage.

Engineering Project at hand:

  • Developing a completely new Granulation Suit to overcome the capacity constraint.

Assistant Manager Engineering & EHS

  • Responsible to conduct Risk Assessment of activities. The main areas of Risk Assessment initiated by myself, as per the Global guidelines are:
    • Machinery Safety Risk Assessment (No access to machine)
    • Ergonomics Risk Assessment
    • Process Safety Risk Assessment
  • Reviewer of safety aspect of Management of change for every new Engineering Project or major task.
  • Conducted various in-house trainings on site to authorized and affected employees.
  • Develop local procedures with respect to Pfizer Global Standards and trained the employees.
  • Responsible to identify the gaps and track the performance of legal and regulatory compliances.
  • Developed a report of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) with third party consultants for Waste Water Treatment Plant.
  • Lead monthly Safety Committee Meeting at site and reported Monthly Site Metrics, Quarterly reporting, Annual information to Pfizer Asia Pacific Group.
  • Reporting to EHS Lead Asia Pacific with EHS Lead Pakistan for facility performance twice a month.
  • Took part in sharing good practices and achievement of site with Global EHS and Engineering team.
  • Conducted safety inspections and audits, provide trainings and developing corrective and preventive actions to ensure Pfizer global health and safety, OSHA, ISO 14001, EPA and HAZMAT compliance.
  • Developed Contractors Safe Work Practices and perform the Pre-Qualification of New Contractors in accordance with the Global EHS guidelines.
  • Risk Analysis of overall facility Fire Prevention System and implement controls / targeted actions.
  • Fulfills FM Global finding (third party insurance providers). Last project at hand was to provide Sprinkler system in warehouse.
  • Managed hazardous and general waste programs to comply with EPA and state regulations. Directed daily activities of the Hazardous Waste Management Program, which included its collection and safe disposal till incineration.
  • Responsible to maintain a system for recording, reporting and investigating injuries, accidents and dangerous occurrences and to identify their root cause. Promoted culture of reporting Good Catches.
  • Responsible to conduct the Industrial Hygiene Sampling for determining Airborne Contaminants in the Workplace.
  • Achieve performance improvements in EHS including Safety Indicators, Loss leaders, electrical safety, energy management, and site investigation and remediation project completion.

Responsibilities as Asst. Manager Engineering

  • Hands on experience on machine maintenance and currently heading overall maintenance department.
  • Responsible to manage Facility Maintenance.
  • Manage to upkeep the plant utility area and supervise on behalf of Utility Manager.
  • Continuous monitoring of critical breakdowns that lead to production stoppage. The skills and expertise used in monitoring of breakdowns are Trend Analysis of Machines Breakdowns on MS Excel and Primavera, Planning and scheduling of Preventive Maintenance Plan, assigning Reliability Ranking Index, Bad actor analysis and categorizing the major Bad Actors (Breakdowns) on machine according to their MTTF, MTBF.
  • Support the mechanical team in utilizing available resources for manufacturing or fabricating change over parts, spare parts etc.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in Wastewater treatment plant operations.
  • Assist and supervise the laboratory staff in performing laboratory analysis, data collection from online instruments, plant maintenance and disposal of Wastewater treatment plant waste as per the environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, guidelines and laws.
  • Responsible to manage the Calibration program.
  • Cross functional team member of “New Product Development” and responsible to design and fabricate the product tooling’s.
