A seasoned human resources executive, Von Goodloe is currently the vice president of human resources for Memphis Light, Gas and Water. Over the course of his career, Von Goodloe has also served in this capacity for other large organizations, including Federal Express Corporation and the Memphis City Schools. In general, a human resources manager has three broad areas of responsibility. Employee and labor relations – Human resources managers are responsible for all employee and labor relations matters, including compensation and benefits, drug testing, occupational health and safety, and incentive programs. Employee recruitment – Human resources executives are responsible for assessing staffing needs and then recruiting the appropriate talent. As part of this process, they are also responsible for corporate branding and finding innovative ways to recruit talent. Training and development – Training and development involve orientation for new employees, professional development, and leadership training. Human resources managers are responsible not only for assessing training needs but also for providing the necessary training to improve efficiency and productivity in the workplace.
