Branch Manager

The Sherwin-Williams Company

Mr. Vargas joined the Sherwin-Williams Company management training program in 1984.  Upon completion, he accepted an assignment to a high profile / low-performing store where he immediately hit sales and profitability targets.  His success led to several promotions ultimately as Commercial Branch Manager which specializes in large state and local government contracts, commercial and home builder opportunities, architectural specifications, and the profesional trade.  Mr. Vargas had full P&L and sales management responsibilities.  He quickly developed skills in inventory management and controls, and helped identify the source of a 2.5% inventory shrink.  His success led to the appointment to the CEO Strategic committee tasked with developing short and long term strategic plans.

In January 2009, Mr. Vargas and his business partner launched the first affiliate marketing site dedicated exclusively to the US Hispanic population.  Using readily available census data and recognizing both the void and the growth opportunity, the team created a business plan which included registering major retailers, financial institutions, and service delivery enterprises to deliver unique value to a growing sector of the US population. 

As the company transitions from early development to a growth phase, Mr. Vargas serves as the voice of the company and is involved in many of the day-to-day operations, which broadly includes strategic planning, business development, and partner management.

Director, Marketing Operations

Dell, Inc

Mr. Vargas was hired by Dell in 2000, to assist in creating service delivery capabilities and help the company move from a hardware company to a technology company offering hardware and services.  His first role was as Engagement / Solutions Architect and from there he quickly became a Senior Manager responsible for managing a team in the pursuit, development, and delivery of service technology solutions. 

Mr. Vargas developed processes, tools, and methodologies still in use today and was the visionary and the architect behind a newly created organization -  Solution Design Center within Dell's Managed Services division.  He effectively converted a group of individual contributors who performed tasks into a highly sought after team of skilled resources directly responsible for generating revenue for segment GMs.  

Mr. Vargas' success led to a promotion to dual director roles, in Retail Marketing and Services Marketing Operations.  His retail team was responsible for working with General Managers to drive revenue through the various Segments.  Under his management, revenue grew double digits across all segments.  After intense negotiations with functional VPs, he succeeded in getting approval on a tightly controlled product development roadmap, then presided over the launch of a new product line later recognized by a leading retail trade organization. 

Mr. Vargas also led the Service Market Operations team and presided over the launch of a campaign for a $5B line-of-business, the largest and most successful campaign at the time.  In this role, he managed a team Product Line Managers, Brand Managers, and Business Analysts.

Senior Consulting Manager

Answerthink / CFT Consulting

Mr. Vargas was recruited by CFT Consulting, later acquired by Answerthink Consulting, in 1997 and immediately joined a team of resources in Cleveland, OH.  There he played a support role in a technology transformation project for a major retailer / wholesaler, specializing in gifts. After several months, he was requested by a major retailer in Nashville, TN, where he lead the assessment, selection, and implementation of a mechandising system deployed across five divisions of the company.  During his three year tenure as a Senior Manager he remained nearly 100% billable.




College of William & Mary

Mr. Vargas attended the evening MBA program at William & Mary's Mason School of Business while still employed at The Sherwin-Williams Company.  He completed the program within the recommended amount of time.  He was a member of a team participating in an international marketing project, tasked with helping a company specializing in bone density measurement. The team was awarded the Governor's Award for overall best marketing plan.  Mr. Vargas earned his degree in 1997.

Growing up in Puerto Rico and having graduated from a private high school in El Condado, Mr. Vargas chose to leave the island and continue his eduation stateside.  He chose Franklin & Marshall College for the promise of a liberal arts education from an institution highly regarded as a premier private college.  He majored in Business Management with a minor in Psychology.  He qualified for the Dean's List in multiple semesters.
