Interest

I enjoy walking, playing squash, badminton, tennis and attending the gym. I am also a keen gardener and had my own market garden. I am a founder member of the Minster Monsters flyball team and enjoy training and walking my dogs as well as competing with them in flyball tournaments and agility training. I have a keen interest in British wildlife and conservation including links with the Ryedale wildlife rescue and rehab. I am constantly looking to expand my knowledge and experience with all species of animals including domestic, exotic and endangered. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I have a young horse that I am hoping to break in in the next two years, I spend the majority of my time with animals, either my own or helping people look after theirs. <o:p></o:p>

Summary

I am a hard working self motivated individual  and have always had a keen interest in animals, their behaviour, and welfare or for pleasure. This interest has been a catalyst for me returning to education and completing a National Diploma in Animal Management and until recently reading for a BSc Hons in Animal behaviour and Training.

I am very welfare orientated and believe that good husbandry practices and environmental enrichment/stimulation allow a captive animal to behave as naturally as possible and reduce environmental stress. I have worked with a broad range of species including; Primates, Macropods, Meerkats, Birds, reptiles and various rodents. I can communicate at all levels and have regulalrly deputised for my present employer and senior management team members in previous roles. i am enthusiastic about passing my knowledge on to others and love learning along with those I instruct.

Fractional Lecturer Animal Management and Foundation Studies

Bishop Burton College
As a lecturer I taught level 3 (National Diploma) Animal Health, NVQ (level 1) Animal Care, and Stages level 1 Agriculture/Animal Care. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I worked in the foundation studies department with learners that had behavioural issues as well as learners with physical and mental disabilities. These individuals had, unfortunately, all had difficulty in understanding the course work, so i proactively identified their learning styles and chose to take a more kinaesthetic route with the learners and actively engaged them in games and activities relating to animals and husbandry. This made their learning experience a much more enjoyable one and engaged them on a level they were comfortable with. I used a similar approach with the NVQ and National Diploma learners and found that it was more beneficial in assignment workshops, which a number had struggled with previously.<o:p></o:p>

I thoroughly enjoyed teaching the young people with specialist needs and found a great deal of personal satisfaction in helping them attain their qualifications.<o:p></o:p>

I was also responsible for managing and supporting NVQ students through a charity volunteer certificate which required me to network with charitable organisations to sponsor the students through work placements and charity events on the sponsor’s behalf.<o:p></o:p>
