Bilingual Sales procurement and Customer Service Representative

I started this position in late February of 2009. Located downtown Montreal, the company looked very promising and showed true care about its employees. Size wise, a medium sized company with a positive and rewarding attitude. My position was within the Industrial Platinum Labware department of the company which helped me acquire advanced technical insight.

Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Be the first telephone contact for the US customer base of the Platinum department.

  • Create and submit price quotes directly to the customer.

  • Provide active sales support for both US and International territory.

  • Assist in trade show arrangements such as flight and hotel booking and searching for new trade show opportunities.
  • Perform any other job related duty as requested by management.

Skills required for this position:

  • Strong Excel knowledge as most of the work is done in Excel documents based on complex macro's and formula's.
  • Strong customer service skills as representative of the company.
  • Good telephone manners as 80 % of the job is done over the phone.
  • Advanced typing skills and mathematical skills to create and submit price quotes.
  • Good comprehension of MS Outlook and IE.
  • Be punctual, detail oriented and team oriented.
  • Bilingual with a third language (Spanish).
  • Open to rapid changing environment while keeping high professionalism.
  • Capacity to absorb a lot of information in a small amount of time.

Positive side of this experience:

This experience has added to my creativity, sharpened my customer service skills and helped me improve my Spanish on a daily basis.

It also allowed me to communicate with customers on a primarily US  and occasionally International level.

Thanks to my marketing background and the company's open managerial philosophy, I was able to provide creative as well as pure marketing input.

Negative side of this experience:

The position was interesting, however, it did not allow me to make full use of all my skills. I was also looking for more responsibility and faster internal promotion.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Provide World Class Customer Service on a consistent basis.

Main accomplishments:

I pride myself of having offered quality service to a new and existing client base of the department.

I actively helped in the creation of Kitco's internal values during the many brainstorming sessions.

I actively contributed in the brainstorming for the design of a future corporate website which for I submitted designs created in the computer program PAINT to the marketing department (samples shown in this CV).

Came up with a revolutionary idea which could offer huge commercial profitablity for the company. This idea was very positively welcomed and appraised by the founder and CEO of the company.

German specialized Customer Service Representative

I started this position in mid-October of 2008. Located on the west side of Montreal, this company looked very promising due to its rapid growth and core business activity, online marketing. Size wise, a small to medium sized company. My position was within the Customer Support department using web based tools.

Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Be the first point of contact for mainly German customers with assist to North-American, Dutch and Spanish customers as well.

  • Use online web based tools to provide customer support through e-mail and chat.

  • Provide customer support through telephone contact as well.
  • Analyze customer issue and resolve it promptly.
  • Offer solutions to computer technical as well as billing issues.

Skills required for this position:

  • Strong overall IT knowledge and ability to offer technical solutions.
  • Strong customer service skills as representative of the company.
  • Good telephone manners as 60 % of the job is done over the phone.
  • Advanced typing skills and familiar with chat system.
  • Good comprehension IE, firefox and safari.
  • Able to multitask, patient, detail oriented and trustworthy.
  • Good knowledge of German to provide quality support as well as good comprehension of English.
  • Open to rapid changing environment while keeping high professionalism.
  • Capacity to absorb a lot of information in a small amount of time.

Positive side of this experience:

Due to time zone difference I was asked to work the night shift. This was totally in line with what I wanted and showed the management's trust in me.

This experience has added to my multitasking abilities as I had to answer inbound calls, chats and e-mails at the same time.

Negative side of this experience:

Due to the global economic slowdown and loss in clientele, the company had no other choice than to close the night shift for cost reduction reasons.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Provide quality customer service on a consistent basis and show a big resistance to stress.

Main accomplishments:

I pride myself of having offered quality service to a new and existing client base of the company, helping customers with their issues and offering prompt solutions.

During this experience I also learned a lot about online marketing processes. I was also taught technical assistance solutions which I used to help customers on a daily basis. I also handled advanced technical issues which I learned by doing on the job.

Procurement Agent

Scotia Bank

I started this position in mid-June of 2008. Located on the east side of Montreal, this financial institution is very well known in Canada. Size wise, a big sized institution. My position was within the Collections department.

Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Perform majorly outbound calls to customers in all regions of Canada in order to collect overdue car payments.

  • Handle inbound calls and provide customer with payment options.

  • Meet procurement targets set by management as well as daily outbound calls target.
  • Perform thorough skip tracing using a wide range of tools when necessary.
  • Provide support to second level collectors when needed.

Skills required for this position:

  • Determined and persuasive individual.
  • Strong customer service skills as representative of the company.
  • Good telephone manners as 100 % of the job is done over the phone.
  • Advanced IT knowledge in order to learn and use internal collection program quickly and effectively.
  • Use a wide range of skip tracing tools when necessary while keeping the bank's ethical standpoint in mind.
  • Able to learn different laws in different provinces and apply them on the job.
  • Show good listening skills and empathy.

Positive side of this experience:

Collecting overdue payments is not for the lighthearted individual. This experience allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and handle tough and stressful situations to the best of my abilities.

It also showed me that I was able to reach set goals while showing determination and empathy towards clients.

This experience gave me a better look into the financial credit world which is an interesting lesson to get.

The team I got to work with was really amazing and that is what I enjoyed most out of this experience.

Negative side of this experience:

I can honestly say that I did not fit the profile for this job even though I reached the set targets with a rather customer service focused than down to earth collecting approach.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Reach the set targets while applying a more customer service approach.

Main accomplishments:

I pride myself of having offered quality service and helped out customers with payment plans. I am also proud to have resolved very complex cases through persuasion, determination, showing empathy and listening as well as providing a win-win situation.

Dutch Linguistic Tester

I started this position in May of 2007. Located close to 100km north of Montreal, I got recruited to work for this company while I was still living in Belgium. Size wise, a small sized company. My position was within a team of international linguistic testers.

Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Translate entertainment content from French to Dutch, English to French and English to Dutch.

  • Keep management up to date on advancement in the project.
  • Work within small groups with each time different people.
  • Provide linguistic support to colleagues when necessary.

Skills required for this position:

  • Have native knowledge in Dutch and French.

  • Have advanced knowledge in English.
  • Provide flawless quality translations in above mentioned languages.

  • Have good computer literacy in Excel and other design programs.
  • Use a wide set of tools to help create a flawless translation.
  • Respect tight deadlines.
  • Strong ability to adapt to change.
  • Be open to constructive criticism from the customer as well as management.
  • Show flexibility when a project needs to be done by a certain deadline.
  • Keep team spirit high in a very diverse cultural group.

Positive side of this experience:

Had a chance to work with people from 20 different countries around the world. experiencing a cultural melting pot first hand as well as experiencing work in the fastest growing industry in and around Montreal.

Was able to see result of my work through a finished entertainment product.

Negative side of this experience:

This position did not offer any perspective for growth nor in position, nor in financial benefit.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Be meticulous on the choice of every word used as the end result had to be perfect.

Main accomplishments:

I provided quality translations without having a translator degree. Those were done within deadline and exceeded customer's expectations.

Buyer account manager

British Car Auctions

I started this position in November of 2006. This was the last employment I held in Belgium before emigrating to Canada. Size wise, a medium sized company with branches in England, Holland, France and Belgium.

Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Seek business opportunities in the form of prospecting.
  • Attract new buyers to the BCA car auctions.
  • Network with customer base on site during BCA's 1 day per week auction.
  • Provide information and support during auction.
  • Use effective tools to penetrate and work assigned territory.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a small team.
  • Show responsibility for company property such as vehicle, cell phone and laptop used as work tools.
  • Be present 1 time per week at the office to perform follow-ups, cold-calls and discuss the next week's sales targets and strategy.
  • Offer support to peer buyer account manager.
  • Active management of existing client base.

Positive side of this experience:

This was the first pure sales oriented position I endorsed. It allowed me to push my limits, work with sales targets and overcome refusal.

It also allowed me to experience human interactions under a different form. The best thing about this position was the feeling of responsibility inherent to the job and the tools I had at my disposal to work with.

Negative side of this experience:

 This position was on a set interim contract base.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Work independently while providing day by day sales oriented results.

 Main accomplishments:

  • Increased customer base by 5 buyers per day to attend auctions of second hand vehicles ranging $500 to $1000 in value.

  • Actively managed an existing client base of 200 accounts.

  • Build strong professional and human relationships with new and existing customers.

  • Attended business related events in order to network and create new sales opportunities.

International Host

I started this position in April of 2006. I attended a thorough training in Palma de Mallorca before being assigned to the island of Ibiza. Size wise, a multinational company with a good international reputation.

 Responsibilities inherent to this position:

  • Welcome customers on site by representing the company.
  • Provide directions, support and help to customers.
  • Handle diverse issues at the airport such as baggage loss or damage, overweight baggage issues etc.
  • Act as local facilitator between customer and hotel employees.
  • Hold a catching and energetic welcome speech in each bus through microphone.
  • Work under minimal supervision at the airport and during rounds in hotels.
  • Ensure flawless customer service in assigned hotels through welcome drinks and regular visits.
  • Handle complex issues on a face-to-face basis while creating a win-win situation.
  • Hold sales pitch presentation under form of welcome presentation to the vacation area.
  • Remain professional even when off-duty.

Positive side of this experience:

This working opportunity was great! Not only did I get to experience living and working in exotic places, I also had a chance to represent a great company. I got offered the opportunity to switch resorts, which is quite rare during a first season, and was send to Turkey. This led me to experience huge cultural differences and allowed me to improve my language skills.

 Negative side of this experience:

 This position was seasonal based.

Biggest challenge inherent to this position:

Dealing with, sometimes, very complex situations in a face-to-face environment trying to work towards a win-win situation.

  Main accomplishments:

  • Offered a leading class customer service both in French and Dutch.
  • Organized sales stimulating presentations in front of small to large audiences in both French and Dutch.
  • Received positive feedback from originally irate customers who would end up having a great vacation thanks to my intervention.

My name is Thibaut Van Damme. I am a 26 year old Belgian citizen who has emigrated to Montreal, Québec in 2007.

The reason why I emigrated was to travel and discover new things. It has now been 2 years that I am in Canada and enjoy staying and working here. I am however open to relocate and discover new places.

As you can imagine, I have a clear passion for travel and would love to get a position that allows me to travel extensively on an international level. This does not take away that I like stability and job certainty as well.
