Dr. Valerie Brutus is a board-certified Fellowship trained Breast Surgical Oncologist who treats benign and malignant breast diseases. She specializes in oncoplastic techniques for breast conservation, sentinel node biopsy, skin and nipple sparing mastectomies with immediate reconstruction for the treatment of DCIS and invasive breast cancer. Her compassion and skill create a caring, comprehensive patient experience.

Dr. Brutus joined Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY in 2011. She completed her breast fellowship at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University in Chicago with Drs. Nora Hansen, Seema Khan and Jacqueline Jeruss. Her general surgery residency was completed at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, an Academic Affiliate of The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She attended medical school in Haiti at Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University in Haiti.

04/2004: San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic: With of The Overseas Medical Assistance Team (OMAT) under the supervision of Stephen S. Carryl MD, FACS. I participated in an outpatient clinic, providing medical care to the local population.

04/2009: Milot, Haiti . With The Overseas Medical Assistance Team (OMAT), under the supervision of Stephen S. Carryl MD, I actively participated in the care of the surgical patients of the only community hospital of a rural area in Haiti.

01/2010: Port-au-Prince, Haiti: I participated as a volunteer in a medical relief mission helping the victim of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince with The Overseas Medical Assistant Team (OMAT) under the supervision of Stephen Carryl, MD. We joined a group of local doctors and participated in the care of all surgical patients.
