Managed and generally oversaw the business for over 35 years – initially a general drapery, but which later grew with a specialist focus on menswear (including shoes) and ladies wear.

Solid and proven retail experience - primary sales person on the menswear side, highly experienced in interacting with and advising customers, with sales generally having increased year on year.
Strong focus on developing new business, maintaining good relationships with existing customers and gaining repeat business wherever possible, linked to which I am good at building relationships across different levels and with people from all social or cultural backgrounds.
Employed several sales assistants to work on the ladies and menswear side respectively – responsible for all employment issues, wages etc.
Key motivator within a team setting and able to get colleagues to perform well above their average level.
Primary buyer on the menswear and footwear side – worked with agents in different parts of Ireland over the years, as well as the UK. For certain labels we ordered 6 months in advance of the new season, for others on an as needed basis.

Handled the accounting aspects of the business in conjunction with the company accountant and kept daily accounts.

Coordination with external marketing advisors, dealing with the review and approval of advertisements (use of radio, newspapers, social media (e.g. facebook) and sponsorship of events).
Primary interests include following sport, particularly the GAA, reading & spending time with family / friends.
