I began work at J.P. Turner & Company, LLC, as a clerk in the operations department. My job responsibilities at the start were to answer incoming calls from our outside advisors and guide them as best I could to solve their issues. After six months in this role, I was trained to be the new margin analyst for the firm. As a margin analyst, I handled all trade corrections, money due, and house call items for the entire firm. I became very comfortable in this role, and soon became the go to contact for outside advisors when they had any operational issue. Towards the end of my tenure in operations, one of the advisors I helped regularly began pushing for me to get licensed and join the firm's training program, which he ran. Shortly after passing my Series 7 and Series 63 exams, I made the switch to the retail side. Throughout my first year in the training program, my job was to cold call, turn these calls into leads, and set appointments with prospects for my senior partner. It became obvious early on that this was a much better role for me than any previous, as I began to stand out from my class. After the first year, I raised more assets than any other trainee and built a viable pipeline of prospective clients.
