CSR

GPS/GNSS location mixed signal IC's.  Leadership role for the GNSS location IC products business unit. Servicing automotive, industrial and consumer.  Launched new GPS/GNSS SiRFstar 5th generation IC portfolio family initiating significant incremental business growth within OEM and aftermarket automotive navigation, telematics, eCall, road toll, fleet and vehicle tracking. Worked closely with FAE's, field sales, and internal business unit to deliver technical documentation including technology demonstrations, data sheets, product briefs, sales presentations, design guides, performance documentation, and competitive comparisons. Highlighted the key performance differentiators that set the CSR product portfolio apart from the competition. Created definition documentation for new products and customer evaluation kits to align deliverables with customer requirements. Drove roadmap to clearly communicate with customers and prioritize internal R&D objectives. Worked alongside program management to obtain internal milestone achievement and ensure product quality according to product life cycle structure. Worked closely with operations and business planning to ensure accurate business forecasts and long range plans.

Sr. Product Marketing Manager of the US-based Technical IC Product Marketing with $60M in Profit and Loss accountability, overseeing all facets of IC silicon design, operations, applications engineering, quality, and marketing and sales support between the European customer base and the US. Leveraged expertise in technical product marketing, PR, strategic alliances, business intelligence, and translation of technical product information into marketable messages on a global scale. Provided performance-focused direction to multiple direct and indirect reports and engineering development teams while leading several concurrent IC projects. Delivered IC product, roadmaps, forecasts, pricing, and cost control during the marketing of Ethernet, and Media Oriented System Transport AV network controller product line, including optical physical layer solutions.

Launched $100M in new Ethernet networking products. SMSC gained market leverage with acquisition of OASIS. Utilized new technology IP blocks developed by OASIS to define a new product family for automotive market. Collaboration with internal design, engineering and product marketing led to $100M incremental revenue.

Streamlined software release process. Time to complete new firmware releases at SMSC was excessive. Aligned activities for US operations, Germany-based engineering and global sales teams. Introduced a streamlined software release process. High impact change reduced obsolete inventory and sped customer conversion process.

Captured $150M in new business from Toyota. Post-acquisition of OASIS, major account expected proposal on next generation of SMSC products. Collaborated with European-based engineering on development plans, prototypes and documentation for next-gen of multimedia networking to win substantial new Toyota business.

Led the daily activities and performance of Project Managers including direct and indirect reports during the development stages of the high-volume MOST multimedia networking IC product line for markets in Europe and Japan. Oversaw $30M in P&L. Facilitated cross-divisional collaborative efforts to ensure high-quality results across Business Development, Product Management and Product Development. Stabilize existing product family and conduct business justification, product definition, and resource plans for next generation roadmap devices. Objectives included product development liaison between US based IC silicon design engineering team and European operations team. Objectives included stabilization of existing product line, new product definition, marketing, and global launch campaigns in addition to company acquisition preparation activities.

Developed mass-market strategy for networking product. First generation OASIS multimedia networking product was struggling with 3% share. Developed and launched new mass market device that was feature-rich, lower priced and higher in margin. Customer base and market penetration increased to 10% over nextfour years.

Launched seven IC product programs. Company startup was having problems communicating between design/qualification operations in Texas and software engineering in Germany. Developed strong rapport with German team to open lines of communication and fill the gap, leading to success.

Fueled superior financial performance through the relentless pursuit of new MCU business opportunities to expand market penetration. Articulated positive ROI solutions for business growth while leading product marketing initiatives, established strategic business alliances, identified price and cost targets, and developed long-term roadmaps for three x86 and four MIPS32-based embedded microcontrollers targeting networking and low power applications. Provided direction to internal design and applications engineering, with a focus on robust customer support. Infused field sales channel and FAE personnel with the training, tools and capabilities needed to capture new design wins. Performed marketing and competitive analysis, led pre and post-launch marketing functions, and managed the company’s partner program to enhance development tools, technology demonstrations, and reference designs.

Successful integration leads to 20% growth. AMD’s acquisition of Alchemy coincided with launch of MIPS32 SoC product. Took ownership of program and drove launch through AMD distribution channels. Managed design win monitoring during high volume production ramp. Product line averaged 20% annual growth for three years.

Managed development of new embedded microcontrollers. Identified gap in performance scalability of AMD’s x86 product line. Managed development of microcontrollers at the mid-range performance levels where ultra-low power requirements provided competitive edge. Post-testing, new x86 line went into high volume production.

Program management, design, and manufacturing of products for automotive applications. Electrical systems design of instrument panel and body controls for General Motors Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Truck and Electric Vehicles.

Negotiated the development of customer technical specifications (CTS specs) by driving consensus between in-house systems engineering and customer engineering managers.This included electrical specifications for LCD displays, user touch interfaces, sensor interfacing, and high reliability serial communications (CAN, SAEJ1850) protocols.

Drove product roadmap by developing, formalizing, and presenting of next generation product and technology proposals to General Motors nameplates including Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, GMC Truck divisions, including Electric Vehicle (EV1). Electrical mechanizations, bill of materials, and function/feature/cost/performance tradeoff considerations were built into the proposals demonstrating design engineering capabilities as well as offering the lowest cost solution during the bidding process.

New product and technology design presentations provided to the customer during the bidding stage resulted in award of 3 out of 4 programs which secured $15M total in new business for Delphi Electronics.

My recent industry focus has been on the development and implementation of strategic planning, technical product life cycle management, and business partnerships for semiconductors and IP product portfolios within the high reliability segments of automotive multimedia and diagnostic applications centered around wireless GPS/GNSS receivers and MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) technology. I have held a broad range of engineering, product line, and operations management responsibility from both an electrical systems level and semiconductor component perspective. I am a highly experienced technical product manager of semiconductors, and electrical systems design, development, manufacturing, product marketing, business development, and product life cycle management within automotive, industrial, networking, telecommunications, and multimedia applications. I have a genuine zeal for the development and implementation of strategic planning, contract negotiation, business partnerships, and product marketing for semiconductors, IP product portfolios, and complete systems solutions. I have led product management and marketing competencies at four large corporations and within 2 start-up environments, headed internal corporate strategy councils, managed multiple products in development and delivery of product positioning communications and technical solutions to customers, through sales channels and at industry events including trade shows, conferences, and seminars with the results of increased value-proposition, brand awareness, and subsequent customer account penetration and growth. One of my recent roles as Product Marketing Director for OASIS Silicon Systems (an Austin TX fabless semiconductor start-up) was a demonstration of international cross-cultural product line management both internally by working closely with all design facility disciplines (design and apps engineering, operations, marketing communications, QA, sales management) which was split between US and Europe and externally with a global channel and customer landscape including US, Europe, APAC and Japan. This was an example of demonstrated expertise in pre and post business integration management capabilities including new product definition, implementation of existing product sustainability strategies, international customer relationships, gathering of business intelligence, CIP implementation, operations oversight, and a strong ability to continually challenge and motivate internal disciplines to continually progress and improve ensuring customer deliverables, schedule, and commitments are met while. These efforts culminated in the successful integration of OASIS Silicon Systems and the associated successful launch and return on investment viability of 7 product programs.
