IT from the inside out: Entrepreneurial Experience

Tim acquired experience as an entrepreneur when he owned a company that built an integrated financial system for four separate organizations in the public sector. The technology, supplied through a partnership with IBM, was cutting edge relational architecture.  From proposing hardware, to database architecture, to software design and implementation... Tim was responsible for it.

Solution Consulting: Creative Ideas Win Business

Tim was sought out by sales management when they were approaching a $3B Mexican conglomerate which needed a new software platform for their business.  The client was unwilling to invest without a clear program to re-engineer their business before installing new technology.  Tim consulted with the client and gained their trust, and developed a creative solution, combining consulting with a custom software. The company won the business, and  as Executive Sponsor, Tim managed the consulting and solution deployment.  The client subsequently invested more than $15 million in software and services.

Tim Patnode’s background is a unique blend for an experienced IT professional: he has moved fluidly between entrepreneurial roles as a consultant and software company owner, and a variety of internal roles as an IT executive. These varied experiences have provided Tim with unique perspectives that are hard to gain elsewhere.  He has learned first-hand what it means to be fully accountable to a customer, and what it takes to run a profitable business. The primary focus in his career has been to build relationships with internal and external customers through integrity, innovation and by delivering superior value.  With hands-on experience in virtually every aspect of the software supply chain, Tim’s uncommon blend of strategic vision, management and hands-on technical experience allow him to effectively listen to and understand the needs of the C-level executive, and translate those needs into language understood by technical teams who are designing and building solutions.

Education and Training

Tim holds a marketing degree from the University of Denver.  Marketing is a discipline that has helped him sell ideas and develop a customer viewpoint in all that he does.  In 2008 Tim also trained with the Kimball Group... a predominant player in the development of best practice in Business Intelligence.When he’s not consulting or managing software development (and not traveling), Tim finds time to explore his interests in T’ai Chi, biking, hiking, and golf.  He lives near Denver, Colorado.

Front Line: Managing High Profile Relationships and Engagements

Following this, Tim was recruited to a software company in the media and entertainment industry where, as director of consulting services (and later VP Strategic Services), he provided program management and developed business consulting, managing a professional services team of 30 consultants to deploy software systems on an international scale.  This often involved 6 to 8 simultaneous projects.  In addition, he managed the company’s global strategic partnerships (clients who had invested $15MM) in the development of next generation software.

Creating Value by Transforming Data into Information

More recently, Tim returned to one of his passions, Business Intelligence.  Over the past six years in both internal and consulting roles, Tim has provided direction for the development of data warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions for a London-based software company.  In this role, he guided and teamed with off-shore developers in Israel, and consulted with companies like Fox Television on their business intelligence initiatives.

Since 2009, Tim has been a consultant to ESPN, the worldwide leader in Sports, and its parent, The Walt Disney Company, providing guidance and direction to their enterprise data warehouse initiatives.  This role has been wide-ranging, including development of strategy and oversight of day-to-day activities of deploying BI across a $2B+ business.  Tim actively consults with SVP level executives on the use of analytics, and works with IT management on definition and implementation of data warehousing technology.
