As co-founder and one of the Chief Executive Officer of Crowdbands, Tom Sarig helps guide an online community that allows fans from around the globe to steer their own record label through a democratic voting system. Crowdbands provides a forum that connects fans with artists, allowing users to play an integral role in discovering new talent.Tom Sarig began working in the music industry in 1990. He quickly worked his way from the mailroom at A&M Records in New York to the Artists and Repertoire Department at Arista Records, where he served as an Assistant before becoming a Talent Scout. In 1992, Mr. Sarig joined TVT, an independent label, as Vice President of Artists and Repertoire. In 1997, Tom Sarig moved to Los Angeles to serve as Vice President of Artists and Repertoire for MCA Records. He returned to New York in 2003. Upon his return to the East Coast, Tom Sarig founded his own company. Called Esther Creative Group, the company provides entertainment consulting and talent management. Clients include Lou Reed, Cake, Le Tigre, Blonde Redhead, and other notable acts. As President of Esther Creative Group, Mr. Sarig maintains involvement in each client’s creative process. He provides management of recording, licensing and publishing, merchandising, and touring.As Lou Reed’s manager, Tom Sarig also found himself in the role of film producer. He produced the 2007 concert film Berlin, which documented the first live performance of The Velvet Underground co-founder’s 1973 album Berlin. Mr. Sarig also produced a short documentary, Red Shirley, that showed Reed interviewing his Holocaust-survivor cousin just before her 100th birthday. Tom Sarig did not initially pursue a career in the music industry. He first worked for Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, now Deloitte LLP, as an international tax consultant.
