Senior Library Manager for Facilities and Security

Wake County Public Libraries

Member of the administrative team that directs the library system. Manage Library Capital Improvement Projects for Wake County Public Libraries including new building projects and renovation projects. Project manager for four library renovations in 2011 and 2012. Future project manager for seven Capital Improvement Projects and seven Renovation Projects. Facilities range in size from 5,000 square feet to 22,000 square feet. Collaboration with architects, contractors, Wake County General Services, Telecommunications, and Facilities, Design, and Construction staff. Responsible for ongoing maintenance of 21 facilities, including yearly assessments and prioritizing expenditures for the library system. Manage the ongoing security: monitoring the security database, budget, and interfacing with the security contractor. Direct supervision of six library managers.

      ·Project manager for the Richard B. Harrison Library: 10,000 square foot facility with a 1.4 million dollar budget; the Wendell Community Library: 5,000 square foot library with a $300,000 dollar budget; and the Green Road Community Library: 10,000 square foot library with a $400,000 dollar budget. Liaison with the Wake County Facilities, Design, and Construction Department and the project architect for each project.  Participated in the design and development and construction phases.  Selected the furniture for each library renovation.

      ·Responsible for library security budget of $160,000.

      ·Responsible for ongoing system furniture budget of $100,000.

      ·Responsible for library utility budget.

      ·Initiated communication with Borders Books and Music during the store closings in Wake County. Coordinated the purchase of display fixtures and shelving valued at over $100,000 at a cost of $10,000.

      ·Also initiated and coordinated donation of 14,000 new books to the library system.

      ·Chair of the Marketing Committee for the Public Library Section of the North Carolina Library Association.

Regional Library Supervisor – West Region; Eva Perry Region

Member of the Library Administrative Team that directed the Wake County Public Libraries. Managed personnel, facilities, budget, programs, and projects of the region. Direct supervision of four library managers with responsibility for 48 branch staff.Liaisonwith ten system-wide committees including Staff Development Day, Storytelling Festival and YouthServices’ Committees. Chair Customer Service and Staff Training for Balanced Score Card initiatives. While at Eva Perry, directed and managed 110% circulation increase over ten years-the highest circulating library in the state with an annual circulation of 1.6M. Since West Regional Library opening in 2006, there has been an average yearly circulation increase of 15% (1.9M annual circulation).

  • Implemented self-services for customers including self-checkout and self-service holds. 
  • Presented on various topics at regional and national library conferences. 
  • Planned and executed the National Libraries of the Future Conference.
  • Created Eva Perry Library's Mock Newbery and Mock Printz Clubs for teens, one of the first in the nation.
  • Serve on county team responsible for opening Northeast Regional Library. Budget: $11.8M.
  • Project manager for the West Regional Library. Budget: $10.2M.Worked with community groups; Wake County Facilities, Design, and Construction; and Clearscapes Architecture+Art on design and construction.Created marketing plan, interviewed and selected staff, built cohesive team, and designed and implemented staff training program

Managed personnel, facilities, budget, programs and projects of the North Region libraries.Direct supervision of six branch managers and 90 branch staff.Administered budget of $3.2M.Managed system-wide adult services programs: reference, readers' advisory, interlibrary loan and collection development. Administered $1M book budget, $1.5M bond book budget and the Library Services and Technology Act grants. Directed system-wide 7 day loan/no holds project which was awarded the North Carolina Public Library Director's Award for Service Innovation. Negotiated book vendor contract to secure an increase of 30% in the discount rate. Supervised $75,000 Cary Branch renovation project. Guided the implementation of $100,000 LAN, the first in the library system.
