Appointed following some financial distress in the charity and concern from The Arts Council (the prime funder). £1.4 million annual revenue organisation, 30 staff.

  • Professionalise and reduce cost of back office systems - introduced Google Apps for office systems, electronic ticketing, new accounting software.
  • Established clear financial controls.
  • Personally redesigned and published a new website at close to zero cost.
  • At very low cost designed & produced a new suite of marketing literature.
  • Led a change in contractual arrangements for staff to reduce costs and increase revenue.

A wide variety of work.  Included in this period is working as Interim Business Director for The Love Music Trust (see below).

A few examples of work:

  • A main speaker at the AMDIS Annual Conference-“ Challenging Received Wisdom”. This followed a previous session for the Association for Marketing & Development in Independent Schools(AMDIS), and Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) on the constituents of an effective school website.
  • Retained to develop the first ever marketing plan for a well established family owned business, develop a style guide and completely redesign and develop a fresh and easy to use website.
  • Retained by the senior management of a charity to bring clarity to their offering (more achieved with me in one week than the previous four years with other consultants-their quote)
  • Helped the newly appointed Head of a midlands independent school to change the marketing team that he inherited, set a new marketing direction, focusing upon events and "word of mouth".  Saving tens of thousands of pounds and has helping secure the future of the school.
  • Led many seminars for Midlands businesses to help them to establish greater clarity in how their product or service fitted with the market need. Worked one-to-one with many entrepreneurs to help them accelerate growth or turnaround from decline.

£ 10m annual revenue, subsidiary of Shell(UK), providing major power generation projects worldwide. Hired to repair a broken, poorly performing marketing & sales team in the subsidiary.

  • Created an electronic CRM system to hold all of our knowledge about potential clients, meetings held, next actions, value & probability of achieving the sale.
  • Clarified the target market and concentrated our marketing effort upon the most potentially fruitful part of the market.
  • Led a complete company rename/rebrand/change of visual identity/new marketing material/launch events.
  • Researched and wrote case studies.
  • Identified stories to promote via PR. Selected and managed external PR and design agencies.
  • Rebuilt from scratch a team of four high performing marketing & sales professionals.
