Filmmaker Thomas Bentey grew up in New Jersey, the location of his first feature-length film, At the Jersey Shore. Although he grew up in Edison, Thomas Bentey spent summers at the shore, and that time provided him with ample material to draw upon when he began writing a screenplay in 2005. Refined over the next four years, the screenplay tells the story of a Jersey-Shore native eager to move to New York City, who comes to re-evaluate his dreams.By 2009, Mr. Bentey was ready to turn his screenplay into a movie. He formed his own production company, Suburbanite Productions, to make that happen. After editing the film during the fall of 2010, Thomas Bentey submitted At the Jersey Shore to the 2011 Sonoma California International Film Festival. Well received at the festival, the movie went on to screenings at other festivals across the country, including the Jersey Shore Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award as well as the award for Jersey’s Best Feature. In 2012, At the Jersey Shore became nationally available through iTunes, Amazon, and Cable Video on Demand.Thomas Bentey wrote the film and stars in it as well. Acting first attracted him while he was an English major at Rutgers University, where he appeared in several student plays and films. After college, Mr. Bentey moved to New York City and appeared in several Off-Broadway plays as well as multiple independent films. Eventually embracing a passion for writing as well as acting, Thomas Bentey also realized his own story could be translated into a thoughtful movie.
