Director, Telemedicine Technology Solutions Nov, 2010 – present

  • Establish new telemedicine technology service line for Mercy Technology Services., including standard solutions, project intake processes, and project management. 
  • Work with clinical leaders to develop multi-year telemedicine roadmap, and budget expectations to meet it.
  • Program Manage all telemedicine projects.  Optimize infrastructure components, reuse key learnings, organize IT teams for delivery, monitor common risks, and connect clinicians working on similar uses of this technology.  Primarily a Cisco Tandberg video platform. 
  • Complete deployment of Mercy’s first telemedicine perinatal center, and additional outreach locations.
  • Deliver tele-headache, tele-stroke, remote-home monitoring services, hearing-impaired and language tele-translation services, tele-psych, and a growing list of additional services via telemedicine technology.  Each of these services allows Mercy to deliver healthcare to underserved areas, and optimize and extend the use of critical healthcare providers. 
  • Technology leader on the Telemedicine Operations Committee and Strategic Committee
  • Lead the cross-functional technical teams in infrastructure projects to improve telemedicine capabilities.
  • Define eight Use Cases / Service Lines for Mercy Telemedicine.  Guide Collaboration White Paper and Strategy to support strategic needs for delivering clinical services via Telemedicine.

  • Manage the DBA group (Oracle, SQL, Epic Cache), the Infrastructure Application Admin group (Websphere, IIS, Sharepoint, Maximo, Ruby, Quality Center, Appworx, Datastage, TIBCO, etc.), BI Operations, and Clarity Reporting teams.  Approx 40 staff.
  • Manage Business Intelligence (BI) Operations and Epic/Clarity (Healthcare Management) Corporate Data Reporting, including 370 enterprise reports.  Oversee Data Warehouse ETL/Load, Business Objects Reporting Support, Extracts, Business Objects Administration, and End User Support.  Work closely with BI Custom Development team for universe design/development. 
  • Oversee the initial set of the Epic-Clarity Meaningful Use enterprise reports. 
  • Directed management of 80 Oracle and 300 SQL Server databases, along with all Epic Cache environments.

Directed IT project for the State Department of Human Services to replace primary software applications supporting Food Stamps, TANF, Medicaid, and Child Care programs (known as the VIP project).The three-year project was estimated at $65M; the winning vendor contract was $37M of that.Outside vendor was selected, along with their framework application.Initial responsibilities included development of initial management plans, development of State team, and vendor selection and preparations.Director role was to oversee the State and Vendor teams, each of which was about 100 people.  IBM zSeries platform, J2EE architecture, Oracle database.

Developed the concept for a computer learning center, gaming center, and internet café in Cool Springs.Project managed the buildout, opening, and operations.Evaluated and selected hardware and software.Designed various service products.Handled marketing, product development, and operations management.  Created and starred in a few TV and radio commercials.  Developed and delivered a few short training classes.  Managed the Saturday night computer game nights, attended by up to 24 kids.

Directed software delivery group of 100 resources and delivered over 35 projects in 2000.Team included project managers, business requirements analysts, vendor delivery managers, developers and operations support personnel.Applications delivered and managed included service provisioning and maintenance, network inventory management, fraud management, affiliate and private label reseller support, tower management, and product implementation.Managed 5 direct reports and directed staffing, budgets, project plans, work estimates, product approvals, customer expectations, and integrated implementation plans.  All Oracle databases under vendor packages, running on HP and Sun platforms.  All system interfaces ran through in-house developed Operational Data Layer (messaging architecture interface engine).

Created Data Management department in start-up company.Managed staff of 20 Data Architects and 20 DBA to maintain database models and production databases for 60 applications and 100 database instances.Led organizational development, including mission, policies and procedures for data model development and 24 x 7 database support.Converted department from consultants to employees in nine months.

Participated heavily in the development of the IT Process Framework, an in-house methodology originally based off of Method/1.Work included development of roles, standard deliverables, routes, estimating factors and templates.

Guided the implementation of BMC database tools, to ensure consistent database management processes and stable databases.Created a tool administrator position to manage licenses and installations, reducing costs and increasing consistency.

Managed the selection of a new CASE tool and transition plan to provide enhanced data modeling capabilities and improve vendor tool support.

Facilitated requirements gathering sessions and created data models as the data analyst for numerous Network system projects, including relational and object-oriented models.  Projects included network switch operational measurement collections, customer premise equipment design and management system, and circuit provisioning and management system.  Received several awards for project contributions, including Network Inventory Management System in 1995, 1990 and 1991 for OMHost , and 1994 for CPE.  Physical databases included DB2, Oracle, Sybase, Tandem, and Adabas, along with VSAM file systems.  CASE data modeling tools included IEF, Bachman, Silverrun, ERWin, ADW, and others.

Modeling project details:

Facilitated requirements gathering sessions and created data models as the data analyst for numerous Network system projects, including relational and object-oriented models. Received several quarterly awards the Network Inventory Management System in 1995.

Analyzed switch software and interviewed network experts to create data model for a network switch operational measurement collection system, allowing single database for trend analysis and issue resolution.  Implemented in 1990 and received 1991 quarterly award for contribution.

Gathered user requirements to create data model for Customer Premise Equipment system providing single system for CPE design and management.  Implemented in 1994 and received quarterly excellence award for participation.

Facilitated three-week requirements gathering session with twelve users; created data model of over 100 entities for Circuit Provisioning and Management project which would have provided common system for network element management and circuit provisioning to network management departments.

Interviewed numerous end users, facilitated numerous joint-application design sessions and created data models for numerous other projects over the course of 8 years.  All were used to design database and ensure information availability for applications delivered to production.

Special Projects:

Invented process for reverse engineering and data modeling VSAM file system for existing circuit provisioning and management application.  Completed data model as basis for re-engineering to a new technology. 

Co-creator of the Data Analyst Skills Assessment.  Created evaluation process and evaluated all data analysts to ensure that they were at appropriate job level.  Received Sprint quarterly excellence award in 1993.

Co-designed data analyst standard curriculum to ensure consistent training levels, an object-oriented discussion group to determine how to transition to this new methodology, and various data analyst tips and techniques documents to ensure consistency among projects and models.

Co-creator in the establishment of a model administration function and creation of central data repository to provide data model security, data usage visibility, component reuse, and impact analysis abilities. Expanded STRADIS development methodology to include Information Engineering concepts, resulting in Sprint proprietary IE-STRADIS methodology. 

Co-developed the original enterprise data model for long distance division’s first strategic information plan, providing global view of the applications and data available to company.  Received letter of recognition for contribution.
