I became involved in the non-profit secter in 1985 when volunteering for a newly formed organization. As the organization grew I became employed. I left in 1989 to pursue a college degree in psychology in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Oral Roberts University. After two years on campus and obtaining some scholarship funding during my time there, I left to get married to my husband a local attorney and published author of Body Politic, a political, medical type thriller.
After returning home and getting married I began to work with the non-profit again in 1992 and in 1994 after the founder and executive director resigned I was voted in by the Board of Directors unanimously as the new executive director. I continued my education through correspondence courses and was awarded eighteen credit hours toward my degree from my work experience. I managed the non-profit until Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005 in which I resigned after experiencing a great loss.
During my years as executive director I worked with the Governor's Program on Abstinence providing an abstinence training program on Saturdays for teenagers in the New Orleans area. I was also involved in coordinating Abstinence Certification Trainings across the State of Louisiana and assisted in certification trainings Internationally. Worked with Operation Blessing International on a project called Hunger Strike Force in which we coordinated giving away food to thousands of individuals in just one day. They arrived in our city with eight eighteen-wheeler trackters full of food in which we were able to bless many. You can view their web site at www.ob.org.
Operation Blessing came again to our city after the hurricane hit and helped bring disaster relief to many more thousands of individuals. In December 2007 they were pulling their disaster relief out of the area and wanted to leave something more permanent behind to continue to help individuals in need. I was contacted and offered the opportunity to start a 501(c)3 non-profit with their assistance. This is how Renewed Hope Center, Inc. came into being which I am now founder and exeuctive director of, offering a Jobs for Life Program (job readiness), Simple Steps to Money Management (Financial Literacy), Lay Counseling (Faith Based) and an Extreme Teen Makeover Program (Teen Prevention and Self Esteme Bulding). My life mission statement is to honor Christ in all that I do keeping Him at the center of my life and treating every person I encounter the way I would want to be treated. I commit my days to purposes that will help the world around me become a better place. I am totally devoted to my husband and family and believe that God is first, family second and career third in importance. I am passionate in all three of these areas enjoying and balancing each toward my life purposes.
