Special Educator: K-2 Autism

I currently teach K-1 students with autism at Banneker Elementary of the Kansas City Missouri School District.  Banneker has children of diverse backgrounds and are of primarily low socioeconomic status.  I have performed many duties within my teaching career which have included but are not limited to:

  • Utilized research based methods from the National Standards Project and the Watson Institute's autism classroom checklist consistently
  • Incorporated innovative technology including iPads for communication,scheduling and reinforcement of targeted skills
  • Held IEP meetings in parent friendly language while adhering to timelines

Intern and Special Educator: 3rd and 4th grade LD and MR

I obtained the Kansas City Missouri Internship before I graduated from Northwest Missouri State.  The program only accepted 12 out of hundreds of applicants. My first teaching experience was quite challenging and I dove in head-first!
