Teri Van Goethem launched DC Bread & Brew, an environmentally friendly restaurant in the DuPont Circle area of Washington, D.C., in 2009. Ms. Van Goethem’s café features artisan sandwiches and pizzas, homemade soups, and gourmet salads, with vegetarian- and vegan-friendly options. Some favorites include vegan chili, mushroom and brie soup, and fresh-baked quiches. Teri Van Goethem chooses locally grown and organic produce as well as organic dairy products and meats. The cafe is Green Restaurant Certified and recognized by the World Society for Animal Protection for offering only humanely raised meats. She orders from environmentally friendly suppliers such as Trickling Springs Creamery, Free Bird Chicken, and Koch Farms Turkey. DC Bread & Brew offers freshly brewed organic and fair-trade coffees from Counter Culture Coffee, as well organic tea. The café also offers a bar with specialty beers and organic wines. The friendly and community-focused atmosphere has become a great draw for patrons, as well as the live music and other regular events. In addition, the café has regular fundraisers to benefit organizations such as K-9 Lifesavers, a dog rescue. Ms. Van Goethem holds membership with Slow Food USA, the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, and the Green Restaurant Association. She oversees the daily operations of DC Bread & Brew, manages employees, and completes supply orders. Her restaurant also offers catering services for breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, and desserts. Before opening DC Bread & Brew, she served as Director of Catering for the fine food retailer Dean & Deluca. She also directed catering for Balducci’s and High Noon. In addition to her experience in catering, Ms. Van Goethem has managed a number of restaurants in the D.C. area.
