Client – PerformanceRetail, Retail Software Provider (Two Engagements)

Engaged to manage projects for the integration of Top-Tier, Retek, SeeBeyond, Oracle, MicroStrategy, Docent, Apollo and Radiant software products (from point-of-sale to back office and data warehouse) into an application service provider’s (ASP) infrastructure for service offering to its retail clients.

  • Led development projects, which enabled retail applications to operate over high-latency, satellite networks (VSAT) by effectively managing both internal, off-shore, and outsourced projects involving client’s teams and several technology partners (Hughes, Retek, Oracle and Accenture).
  • Reduced project timeline by a month, resulting in $2M savings, by expediting deliverables to and from vendors.
  • Developed first product roadmap with client’s Product Manager and customers.
  • Gathered requirements and certified hardware/software products for all remote inventory management functions (ordering, receiving, transfers, stock counting) from store handheld device, via 802.11 wireless access to VSAT network, into backoffice systems.
  • Analyzed interfaces between DSD vendor and customer to certify the DSD ordering process within store operations.
  • At client’s request, managed its largest customer account, conducted executive presentations, collaborated with training, operations, pricebook & sales organizations, and prioritized software releases were developed and executed in order to move toward business goal.

Client – A&P, Grocery Retailer (Three Engagements)

Engaged in the tactical integration (point-of-sale to back office and data warehouse) and implementation of retailing client’s new distributed systems’ infrastructure, which includes applications from Retek, OMI, Manugistics, Oracle, Microstrategy, IBM and others.Defined an iterative approach with executive management to apply software best practices to tactical situations, to mentor client’s staff and to mature the service delivery process strategically while addressing tactical situations.

  • Managed the recovery of major testing phase, reducing program delay by 45 days, and resolved issues surrounding massive data conversion (11 terabytes).
  • Introduced vendor/product evaluation process (key process area in CMM) and performed assessment of automated test tools to insure that critical performance factors were met in conversion and subsequent data warehouse loading.
  • Collaborated with client’s internal IT staff and the systems integration partner to develop release strategy and to prioritize functional requirements across business groups (PMO).
  • Developed mission, vision, communications and projects to position a client’s Software Quality Assurance team both tactically and strategically, which resulted in proper business alignment within a large-scale systems integration program ($300M).
  • Analyzed client’s EAI project needs, published recommendations for utilizing Java, JSP and XML frameworks with IBM MQ Series, and recruited systems architect to lead in project’s recovery.
  • Produced organizational analysis document for $10B grocery retailer’s information services group, with recommended a transitional structure (implemented 7/01) focusing on its rollout of a new distributed systems’ infrastructure and effective change management practices of existing legacy systems.
