Interest

I love to cross-stitch and I have won several blue ribbons at the county fair.I just learned how to knit and I can crochet Afghans, also.I like to draw and I donated a painting and a drawing to Wal-Mart’s “Silent Auction.”The proceeds went to benefit Children’s Miracle Network.I was surprised when the pair sold for $60.00.I have been married to the Preacher’s son, Larry, for 33 years and we have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. We call three of them our flower garden as they are all sisters named Lillie, Rose, and Daisy. We live on Newground Road in Edmond on almost the same piece of land where my husband was born.We built a large two-story farmhouse which we named Short Creek Farm. This is a beautiful place to live, abundant with blackberries, deer, fruit trees, and even some occasional poultry.Next month we are expecting five Barred Rock laying hens and three turkey chicks from J and J Supply in Ansted. The back deck connects to the tree house via a wooden bridge. Our church is nearby where I started teaching Sunday School when I was 18.I am the Church Historian and I am a member of the Graydon Baptist Women’s Group.I like to garden and have donated the use of ½; acre of our land to “God’s Kids Garden,” where neighboring kids from Edmond and Graydon can learn to grow their own food and donate the excess to the local food pantry. They brought the fertilizer yesterday.I’ve been to Mexico, Texas, and Canada.I write books, many of which use Short Creek for their setting. You can view them at http://www.lulu.com/synerpa.I sometimes write for Country Living Extra (two features) and I used to live in a bookstore (Poetry Corner) for three years.I have been a Damaris Wilson Scholar, a Bonner Scholar, a Gilder-Lehrman State History Teacher Finalist, and this year our class gets to take their Social Studies project to the State Level in Charleston. It is an economics project on how much money you can save if you switch from incandescent light bulbs to fluorescent ones.My newest endeavor is helping the class raise butterflies for our Holocaust Remembrance Day in May.
