Business Development Manager                                                                                                                                  April 15 - Aug 15   A SoftBank funded company, OYO is India's largest hotel chain. Built on a technology enabled model, OYO aggregates existing hotel supply and standardizes the experience for its consumers. I am part of the Gurgaon team as a business development manager. 

  • Part of core team of 4 that grew supply base from 50 hotels to 150 hotels in 30 days. 
  • Manage business operations for a portfolio of 30 hotels. 
  • Worked with finance, sales and operations team to manage owner relations, sales & customer experience.  
  • Innovated a payment process to speed up vendor payment time by 50%. 

Venus Hosiery Pvt. Ltd. (Delhi, India)

A family owned manufacturing company specializing in socks. The company has 50 employees with revenues of USD 1 million/year. Joined the team to build the business & look for growth opportunities.

  • Collaborated with top management to create a 3-point business development plan: exports, domestic market & high growth niches like compression, performance wear.
  • Executed a sock brand buy-out, to create Venus’s domestic market presence. Evaluated the opportunity by conducting market due-diligence & worked with management to execute the deal. This led to an instant increase of yearly business by 40%, team of 10 members, presence in 5 states & network of 4000 retailers.
  • Led activation of direst sales to exporters. Process: made list of prospects, cold called to reach decision maker, followed with sales meeting & samples. Secured orders from 2 major exporters to increase business by 10% of previous year.

Adsway Digital Media (Delhi, India)

A digital media company established with a purpose to create an interactive, and smart medium for out of home advertising. I built the company from ground up establishing the product and marketing teams and successfully taking the product to market with a national chain of restaurants in India. 

  • Created an execution plan to focus on two tracks: 1. Develop product prototype for cab companies 2. Start customer development with advertisers & media houses. Recruited a co-founder to oversee product development & raised a USD 40,000 family-savings funding round.
  • Hired key members on team: software services company to execute product development & advertising industry veteran (Ex. McCann) to work with media agencies. Set a prototype development target of 3 months & met with media houses. Key learning: advertisers need high numbers to advertise on our platform.
  • Activated radio cab sales with direct sales to Easy, Mega, Meru Cabs. Process: cold call, reach decision maker, pitch business, product demo & proposal. Key Learning: financial assumptions are incorrect & radio cabs are not feasible as business partners.
  • When looking for new partners for our interactive platform, I led the pivot to the hospitality industry. Worked with business & product teams to create a SAS model & built a prototype for hospitality companies in one week.
  • Activated hospitality sales to 3 customer segments: coffee chains (ex. Barista), hospitality chains (ex. Fortune hotels) & restaurants. Key learning: hospitality chains segment most interested in value proposition.
  • To incentivize sampling, launched with a 1-month free trial. Secured demos with top chains (Lite Bite foods, Galaxy entertainment). Landed first sale with Galaxy entertainment (Future Group Co.) to digitize all restaurants nationally. Started work in New Delhi & Mumbai restaurants.
