Project management for SAP ERP Upgrade project for a large document management company

  • Effectively carried out the complete upgrade using the offshore team. Upgrade team consisted of a project manager, 6 functional consultants, 3 developers and 3 basis consultants offshore.
  • Planned and executed the “Upgrade Lite assessment” from offshore which provided estimation of the number of impacted objects.
  • Effectively used “Upgrade in lab” approach with Wipro competency, which reduced the overall period by 4 weeks.
  • Consolidation of test scenarios from various other projects and support pack test cases and prepared the final list of test cases, which were around 700.
  • Detailed breakup and tracking of test scenarios based on business functions was carried out by the testing team. Additional tracking for interface testing with other sap systems and third party Bolton systems was carried out because of IDOC structure changes resulting in zero interface errors.
  • Upgrade team handled security and authorization fixes. Also some of custom programs had to be rewritten by the developers due to additional restrictions on authorization objects (e.g. SE16 transaction).
  • As part of the gap analysis, process changes with the new version were identified using Wipro EASUp tool and explained to the business users.
  • Successfully reduced the long cutover time by archiving some of the quick win tables. Testing the cutover time by increasing the CPU and memory during the mock upgrade.
  • Managed a critical issue with the Credit card encryption effectively with SAP support along and collaborated with all stakeholders to minimize the business impact.
  • Enhancement pack 2 was installed as requested by business for additional features to be used for future requirement.
  • Effectively managed the complexity of parallel BI upgrade along with the ECC Upgrade.
  • Extensive Coordination and communication was carried out to sync up the new objects and ensure there was no impact on upgrade due to the parallel ongoing projects.
