Credit management

As branch manager, one of the prime responsibility is to make credit decision which involves

  • Appraising and processing the loan application based on the income eligibility, credit history (generating CIBIL report), debt to income ratio and decision to approve/reject the credit proposal
  • Credit rating of the commercial/SME segment of loan is done on a regular basis and which impacts the interest rate of the loan
  • Maintaining stock register and deriving drawing power in the cash credit accounts on the basis of stock and sundry debtors statement. Verification of stock done on a quarterly basis
  • Documentation of the sanctioned loans and renewal of documents periodically to ensure that they are enforceable in the court of law
  • Disbursement of the funds and verification of the end use of funds for post disbursement compliance are closely monitored
  • Credit monitoring of the sanctioned loans and the repayment in the loan accounts as per sanction terms to be complied
  • Ensure bad debts of the branch are managed effectively by conducting recovery campaigns, allocation to the recovery team, suit filing wherever required and sale of assets through SARFASI as per banks NPA management policy
  • Liaising with the panel advocate for timely action on the suit filed accounts
  • Conducting retail asset melas/campaigns in the corporates and local area for promotion of bank products to improve market penetration
  • Cross selling various retail asset products to the existing customers of the bank
  • Creation of mortgages, hypothecation or any other charges in favor of bank as per the credit management guidelines of the bank

Banking Operations

  • Administering regular daily operations such as vault and teller operations, reconciliation of ATM and inter branch transactions, monitoring office accounts, RTGS, Electronic fund transfers, clearing functions etc.
  • Preparing job allocation, monthly income and expense report, credit monitoring report, cash and suspicious transaction reports, monthly compliance reports, export credit statements, quarterly and annual closing of accounts statements, BASEL II statements etc.
  • Generating and maintaining daily MIS reports on bank operations
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements laid by acts governing banking regulations, policies and guidelines set by bank from time to time
  • Maintaining vouchers, documents bills and all other important records as per audit requirement
  • Conducting campaigns in the local area for mobilizing savings, current accounts and deposits there by business growth of the branch
  • Maintaining vendor management and annual maintenance contract for the branch equipment’s
  • Working closely with the internal and external auditors of the branch to ensure compliance with RBI regulations and banks policies. Ensure on-time compliance through necessary rectification and closure of audit findings from various audits (Risk based internal audit, concurrent audit, Statutory audit, Monthly internal audit, Jewel loan purity check etc.)
  • Conducting internal inspections of branches, stock audit, pre and post disbursement verification of mortgages on a regular basis
  • Reviewing the documents related to account opening as per KYC norms
  • Risk scoring of the new and existing customers on a regular basis as per anti-money laundering (AML) requirements
  • Liaising with the new and existing customers for increasing the business volume, cross selling various bank products, insurance etc.

Project Title: A Study on the determinants of derivative usage by Indian Banking Industry

Summary Of the Project: Study done to understand the derivative market in India and to find the determinants of derivative usage (interest rate derivatives and currency derivatives) by Indian banks. Taking the banks that use derivatives for hedging analysis was carried out for two years (financial year 2009-10 and 2010-11). It was found that the determinants of interest rate derivative usage are interest rate risk, asset quality, credit risk, net interest margin and financial distress and the determinants of currency derivatives are financial distress, dividend paid, and asset quality, investments outside India and balances outside India.
Statistical Tools used: SPSS – ANOVA, Multiple Linear Regression, Pearson Correlation Matrix, MS-Excel.

MBA Summer Project: Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai (2 Months)
Project Title: A Study on the evaluation of credit appraisal process for home loans.

Summary Of the Project: Analysis was carried out to find the prime variables to be considered while appraising the home loan customers using correlation, chi- square and multiple Linear Regression. Proposed amount of loan, repayment period, income other than salary, type of property and net salary were found as the prime variables.
