Summary

I am a frequent speaker, writer, and blogger on  IT security.  I am the author of Surviving Cyber War, a book on the global rise of cyber conflict  published in 2010 by Government Institutes, a division of Scarecrow Press. I am the founder and Chief Research Analyst of IT-Harvest.  I cover the 1,200 security vendors that provide solutions for small businesses, enterprises, and government agencies. 

AS a GLG Leader I am frequently engaged by the clients of Gerstan Lehrman Group to answer their questions on security technology and companies.

I have founded several small businesses and have held executive positions at Webroot Software and Fortinet Inc.  I was VP Research for Gartner for four years and a Manager Technical Risk Services for PricewaterhouseCoopers prior to that.

I travel internationally to address conferences and conduct seminars on rising Internet security threats.  I write at ThreatChaos.com as well as contribute columns to Network World Magazine, and CIO Update. I am a contributing expert on security to Focus.com, an online resource for small to medium businesses.

I am a holder of Gartner's Thought Leadership Award for 2003.  SCMagazine named me one of the Pioneers of the IT Industry in November, 2009.

Founded this IT-research firm that specializes in covering the security industry. Write regular columns for DarkReading, CIOUpdate, and NetworkWorld Magazine. Re-launched the ThreatChaos blog as an independent source for frequently updated commentary on security events, government actions, and international threats.  Re-focused coverage to the area of Cyber Defense.

Prior to re-launching IT-Harvest I served as Chief marketing Officer of the world's leading Unified Threat Management appliance vendor where I led the marketing, public relations and analyst relations teams.  As chief evangelist I presented in 26 countries on six continents to enhance Fortinet's brand.  As a member of the executive team I helped set go-to-market strategies and contributed to overall strategy.

As evangelist for Webroot Software, a provider of security software for Small and Medium Business. I travelled the world speaking to press, analysts, and customer audiences to raise awareness of Spyware issues and Webroot's solutions. Elevated Webroot's industry recognition dramatically.

While VP of  Research at Gartner Inc. I was consistently in the top ten  analsysts in combined customer inquiries and Strategic Assesment Days (onsite consulting).  I was given Gartner's Thought Leadership Award for 2003, and Network World Magazine named me one of the 50 most powerful people in networking.  I was quoted continuously in the press and shook up the IDS/IPS industry as well as dramatically impacting the firewall industry with my research.  I authored versions of the Firewall, IDS, and MSSP Majic Quadrants. 

I intereacted frequently with the government team and participated in Exectuve Briefings of  the US State Dapartment and the Pentagon annually.

As founder and President of i-gift I led this Isiah Thomas company to its successful launch of an online gifit certificate fulfillment service.  Guided development team of 18 people.

PricewaterhouseCoopers

Led security audits of PwC clients including banks, energy firms, insurance companies, and a major train operator.  Conducted external vulnerability scans and attacks, war dialing efforts, and internal reviews of security practices.  Wrote PwC's best practises for firewalls and third party connections.
