Betfair is the world’s largest online wagering community and one of the worlds leading online gaming and wagering operators. Betfair US comprises of global engineering/development groups based in San Francisco, CA and Denver, CO and Television Game Network (TVG- a licensed US online wagering and television broadcasting business) located in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, OR.

Vice President, Human Resources

Joined pre-IPO to build and lead an HR organization in support of Betfair’s growing operations in the US, staff and organize an engineering group in San Francisco and integrate the newly acquired TVG broadcasting operations in Los Angeles.

  • Successfully staffed and organized small highly effective HR team in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Transitioned HR from a totally outsourced function to a full service internal function.
  • Drove the growth of San Francisco based technology staff from less than 20 to over 80 engineers developing local software products and global mobile software applications. Designed and implemented programs to ensure competiveness and retention in a tough labor market.
  • As the senior most US based HR executive, developed and implemented HR initiatives, solutions and programs in support of overall US business objectives. Implemented first employee engagement program and succession planning program.
  • As a key member of the US executive team, partnered with senior management in providing strategic leadership and consultation in the area of HR, Facilities, Security and overall business operations.
  • Aligned overall corporate goals with acquired and newly established\developing groups. Restructured TVG broadcast business to reduce costs and gain operating efficiencies.
  • Designed and implemented US HR policies/procedures in the areas of employee relations, compensation, employee benefits, talent acquisition and HR systems.

SCEA is the $4B Sony subsidiary that markets, sells, distributes and supports Sony’s PlayStation video game consoles, peripherals and video games in North America.

Promoted to continue leading HR and to revive, restructure and lead Supply Chain/Distribution, IT, Hardware Service, Consumer Contact Centers, Software Format Quality Assurance and Facilities/Security. With 8 direct reports, successfully revamped each function into a cohesive proactive team delivering major contributions to the unprecedented success of the company.

  • As a key member of the executive team, collaborated in the strategic leadership and direction of the company, product positioning within North America, global PlayStation product operations, and worldwide Sony group initiatives.
  • Designed and negotiated complete employee benefit programs. Recognized for establishing industry leading and cost effective employee health/wellness and retirement/saving plans.
  • Developed company-wide employee annual bonus and sales incentive programs acknowledged as a major contributor to the overwhelming company success.
  • Led talent acquisition team ensuring hiring and retention goals met. Successfully grew the organization from less than 200 to 1600 plus employees in North America.
  • Eliminated $MM in supply chain/distribution costs during 6 major console product launches and countless software and peripheral launches. Noted for increasing overall supply chain efficiencies and reducing inventory risk through clear effective 3PL partner management and global supply/demand focus. 
  • Successfully outsourced 60% of contact center operations while providing best-in-class support to North American consumers. Continually improved all contact center matrices including call handling time, average speed to answer and email correspondence campaigns.
  • Drove major IT enterprise wide systems and applications development/upgrades including Oracle HR, Siebel CRM and Oracle ERP. Recognized for establishing first formal IT disaster recovery program.

  • Spearheaded strategic HR direction and leadership. Credited with establishing HR policies/procedures that dovetailed with and positively contributed to business objectives.
  • Established as the executive team coach on HR related business matters, issues and initiatives.
  • Developed employee performance management system ensuring individual recognition, individual career growth and company/department objectives aligned.
  • Dramatically eliminated the number of employment related legal claims from 10 plus per year to 0 through proactive employee relations and solid knowledge of California labor law.
