Director IT - Platform Management

Capital One Financial Corporation

Directed a team in Customer Acquisitions that protected the viability of all technical assets supporting US Card operations.  Managed budgeting, drove maintenance of service levels, balanced risk, ensured the development of infrastructure strategies, and managed costs.  Created procedures for risk assessment, prepared for, managed and addressed internal audits and verified compliance with company and regulatory policies.

Results:

- Reversed previous negative audit position with both federal regulators and internal audit, allowing Capital

One to move forward with its strategic imperative to diversify its financial services portfolio by acquiring

banks.

- Implemented a service level quality improvement program that fundamentally changed how business

services were measured, budgeted and delivered.

- Streamlined business and IT processes by integrating technology risk management procedures into daily IT and operational activities.

Jan 2003 - Dec 2005

Director IT - Card Acquisition Platform

Capital One Financial Corporation

Partnered in an innovative business customer interaction model and development team process that prioritized and managed defects and recommended infrastructure, regulatory, compliance, and audit related enhancements for a mission critical decisioning system.

Results:

- Lead the first IT team in Capital One through a successful lean manufacturing/agile development pilot

with operations partners. This Six Sigma based approach was later adopted as a best practice and

used as a model for the US Card Platform Management team.

-Upgraded the $23 million mission critical Credit Decisioning system with zero defects introduced into

production, positioning it as a more modern and flexible business tool that was key to driving the division's speed to market imperatives.

-Introduced and eventually caused adoption of systematic refactoring efforts as a standard business

and IT practice, thus driving down production defects and cost while increasing flexibility and business

customer satisfaction.

Oct 1999 - Dec 2002

Director IT - Creative Services Platform

Capital One Financial Corporation

Lead a team of Apple system engineers that built, modernized, supported and integrated the Macintosh based Creative direct mail process into Capital One's mainstream production engine during the company's most demanding and rapid growth in direct mail solicitations.

Results:

- Complete retooling of the Macintosh creative production environment in less than 18 months,

which allowed the Creative team to keep pace with business demands for both innovation and speed

initiatives.

-Introduction of standard IT practices regarding desktop management, backup and both desktop and

server security. This ensured that the Creative platform's risk posture was greatly reduced and

brought into compliance with similar business processes and systems as required by regulatory

law.

-The implementation of a digital asset management system that worked in concert with existing

production systems was one of the foundational elements in the US Card Division that facilitated

Capital One's meteoric rise in profits, industry ranking, brand awareness and customer acquisitions during its most crucial period of growth. The system drove branding standards and pdf production workflow efficiencies that kept pace with increased business demand. The system and team became

nationally recognized when Microsoft asked Capital One to become a charter member of the Microsoft

Macintosh Customer Council. This council steered Microsoft worldwide product development for

Macintosh platform business software.

Managed sales, support and systems integration for creative, publishing and business related solutions.

design, call center and corporate fulfillment center growth objectives.  At inception, the infrastructure supported five associates and one server. Seven years later it supported a mixed computing environment for over 150 users in three separate locations.

- The strength and flexibility of the technology allowed the firm to win bids with and retain clients like Circuit City, Dominion Virginia Power and the Girl Scouts of America.

-Integrated the company’s main office location with two satellite locations. Two offices were networked with, at the time, innovative and new secure point to point high speed wireless technologies that avoided the costly expense of T1 lines.
