Steven D. Turnipseed founded the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 1968. The organization represents surgical and medical physician assistants. Also a founding member of the Washington Academy of Physician Assistants, Steven D. Turnipseed served as President of the organization in 1976 and developed policies for physician assistant compensation with the Reimbursement Committee of the Washington State Medical Association. Steven D. Turnipseed completed the MEDEX Physician Assistant Training Program at the Northwest Division of the University of Washington. Continuing his education, he then attended the State University of New York’s Empire State College, located in Saratoga Springs, New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Medical Administration. He returned to the University of Washington to work on his Master of Public Health Administration, which he received in 1986. As a leader in his field, Steven D. Turnipseed contributes to his industry’s growth through training materials, published findings, and live speaking events. Turnipseed is the coauthor of Training Physician Assistants for the Pacific Northwest: The MEDEX Northwest Ten-Year Experience. He presents his experiences and findings at forums and colleges throughout the country, and his speaking engagements have included events in Washington, Pennsylvania, and California. Additionally, Steven D. Turnipseed spearheaded physician assistant programs at multiple universities, including the University of North Dakota, the University of Alabama, Meharry Medical College, and Howard University.A noted and respected professional, Steven D. Turnipseed earned the Washington Community Leader Award and was inducted into the Physician Assistant Hall of Fame. Turnipseed now resides in Woodland Hills, California, near the Paramount clinic and offices of Centro Medico Santa Cruz, where he practices as a Physician Assistant. Steven D. Turnipseed continues to support organizations such as the California Academy of Physician Assistants and the Central Area Youth Association of Seattle.
