StoneHenge Kennels is the most recent business in a line of successful projects begun by Steve Kruse. He began in the farming industry with Kruse Brothers in 1967. Kruse’ company became one of the largest hog farming operations in Southeast Iowa at the time. Always looking for the next opportunity, Steve Kruse started Kruse Construction in 1983, a building company that specialized in bricklaying. In 1986, Steve Kruse was able to fulfill his life-long dream of breeding dogs, and founded StoneHenge Kennels, a top-quality dog breeding facility located in West Point, Iowa.Since its foundation, Steve Kruse has invested over a million dollars in StoneHenge Kennels, making it the superior breeding farm it is today. Trained staff members oversee the dogs 24 hours a day, making sure that their kennels and ample outdoor pens are hygienic and well-maintained. Steve Kruse produces many show dogs, having owned over 20 champion award-winners, but he knows that most of his dogs will become pets in a family’s home. With this in mind, Steve Kruse implements various activities for his puppies to ensure that they are socialized and behave well around other dogs and small children when they reach their new homes.Several breeds are represented at StoneHenge Kennels. Among them are shiba inus, golden retrievers, French and American bulldogs, and soft coated Wheaten terriers. Steve Kruse feels a particular passion for English bulldogs, which he has been breeding for more than 25 years. A favorite as family pets, the English bulldog has a docile temperament and a friendly, people-oriented personality. In addition to breeding dogs, Steve Kruse actively participates in his local community, mentoring youth in reading and serving as a volunteer at the local West Point Sweet Corn Festival. Steve Kruse is also a member of the local Knights of Columbus chapter and The American Legion (Post 668).
