Conducted in-depth research related to microbial remediation options for carbon tetrachloride contaminated vadose zone environments. Performed training initiatives to mentor junior staff, graduate, and undergraduate students, developing collaboration between the group and university partners. Developed and implemented molecular biology techniques to build an organism tracking process while constructing subsurface environment models and performing cell culturing methods. Reported all research outcomes by writing a standard laboratory notebook and associated documentation, providing project status to the department for review.

Aug 1998 - Feb 2000

Postdoctoral Fellow

Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory

Conceptualized the bioreactor portion of an artificially intelligent fermentation unit by constructing it utilizing the expertise of physics, engineering, chemical engineering, and software programming professionals on the team. Administered unit and artificial intelligence testing through microbiological and chemical analysis (including GC) to properly construct model environments to challenge decisions of the AI controller. Led progress for the project by partnering with senior science staff to discuss current research findings. Secured funding by formally presenting research findings in weekly seminars, persuading agencies to continue their financial support for the project, retaining nearly $2 million in funding. Tracked project progress and coordinated team efforts on concurrent projects to prepare requisitions for equipment and identify specifications for purchases. Served as liaison between the work team and departmental managers, coordinating research and project management endeavors of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists.

Microbiologist/Investigator

J.R. Simplot Company

Developed bioremediation processes for surface and subsurface waste generated at fertilizer plants as well as the mines supplying them (specifically heavy metals contamination). Collaborated on remediation projects ranging from contaminated soils to high energy explosives remediation. Maintained and operated analytical chemistry equipment such as GC/MS, HPLC, AA, and an assortment of additional devices. Supervised up to 4 laboratory staff and mentored interns on experimental design, microbiological techniques, report writing and critical review, as well as analytical instrumentation usage and maintenance. Directed 3-4 projects concurrently, overseeing the microbiology laboratory unit and testing agricultural products to enhance business development initiatives for the sales department. Coached laboratory staff on current research methods to help bridge the gap between manufacturing and research departments, achieving a ìTeam Player of the Yearî award the first year on the job. Analyzed in-house and external data from agricultural products to facilitate increased sales generation. Compiled and synthesized research findings into reports for senior management to devise strategic sales and marketing plans.
