Summary

I had a private law practice in Bellevue for a number of years, emphasizing the areas of transactional business and real estate matters.  In 2000, I began representing Beacon Plumbing which grew into the most widely recognized plumbing company in the Puget Sound area.  In 2010,  I left the law practice and moved in-house to Beacon where I have stayed  as director of legal affairs.  I have 20 + years  experience in contract law drafting and reviewing a wide variety of agreements.

As head of legal affairs I manage and am responsible for any matters that touch the company in the area of contract review and drafting including:

  • All negotiating, drafting and reviewing all contracts from third party vendors, equipment lessors and suppliers

  • Drafting and reviewing internal contracts covering non-disclosure/non-circumvention agreements for employees

  • Daily review of contracts prepared out in the field by our technicians for our customers for compliance with company policies and procedures

Other significant accomplishments:

  • Settling $44M class action suit filed against Beacon Plumbing
  • Negotiating and drafting of NFL running back  Marshawn Lynch's multi-year personal services contract to act as a local spokesman for Beacon
  • Drafting the reorganization plan approved by the creditors in the successful Chapter 11 re-organization plan filed by the company in 2010

Other areas of responsibility:

  • Monitoring and supporting outside counsel handling both plaintiff and defense cases affecting the company
  • Monitoring compliance with state and local authorities concerning wage/workmen's compensation/unemployment requirements
  • Developing risk management policies and strategies to minimize future premium raises and issues with our insurance carriers
  • Diffusing the potential for disputes with customers involving larger projects escalating to the litigation level by directly managing and negotiating the issues with the customer

I maintained a private practice emphasizing business and real estate in Bellevue, WA .  The practice involved:

  • Drafting documents for business clients including NDA and non-compete agreements often related to sales and aquisitions of businesses
