Director of IT

Company: Leading provider of cost-effective and flexible networked media storage and servers for production and broadcast.

Direct Reports: 5 (IT Business Applications Developer/Program Manager, Senior Desktop Specialist, IT Business Analyst, Web Applications Engineer, System Administrator, contract ERP programmer and project manager).

Reported to: VP Operations. Opex and Capex Budget: $US 2 Million.

Hit the ground running by creating the blueprint necessary for standardization and customer satisfaction. From inadequate procedures, no policies for IT operation, insufficient reporting lines and growing levels of customer dissatisfaction, the operation became a model of best practice IT operation with clearly defined policies, tracked helpdesk ticketing, improved customer satisfaction rates, and a greater solution orientation. In just 12 months, transformed this ad hoc IT environment from an audit failure to a successful pass on all compliance standards.

  • Resolved tangle of network infrastructure that presented major issues for end users across four separate offices. Unreliable and mismanaged connectivity issues were resolved quickly with the delivery of a virtual private network that could access all IT resources from any office.
  • Eliminated inefficient, erroneous, and duplicated practices that required the same data to be entered on a number of separate systems. Replaced six disparate systems with a single ERP solution that allowed a clear flow of information from sales, through finance, manufacturing and shipping and fast tracked the company to handle an $85M+ increase in annual revenues.
  • Created the company's first steering committee, formed to educate departmental heads on IT's medium and long-term visions and elicit feedback on departmental priorities for future planning. Initiative was an outstanding success spawning business-enriching projects including applications for business intelligence and forecasting/budgeting.

  • Assumed control of all IT staff recruitment to ensure best quality staff and ensure a solid mix of skills for optimum IT functionality. Replaced contracted labor with permanent personnel that would support the company's aggressive growth and become response to the company's needs, set salaries, designed bonus plans, conducted annual performance reviews and set long-term staffing goals.

  • Under personal leadership, steered the successful $US500K rollout of MS Dynamics NAV to deadline. Collaborated closely with vendor to define security roles that fit the organizational layout to ensure security was functionally based in favor of table based. Initiative ensured greater streamlined procedures for adding new users as the company grew.

  • Instigated drive to embrace Sharepoint technologies to overcome flat file intranet website and outdated data. Managed independently by each department, the new system vastly improved the accuracy of information available.

  • Selected vendor and oversaw implementation on major purchase requisition and PLM projects.

  • Assumed control of a project to define and implement a solution that would boost forecasting capabilities and provide greater report flexibility for more accurate executive decision making. Poor visibility from the sales pipeline and skewed quarterly statistics, gave way to vastly improved business intelligence information.

  • Instrumental in delivering a 5.2 customer satisfaction rating from a top scale of 6.
