My aim is to take on a challenging role in an industry where I can advance my career and achieve my goal of being a valuable contributor within the marine and maritime industry.
I would like to secure a position with a company that is willing to give me this opportunity and in return I will become an effective and integral member of that team.
The marine industry caught me by surprise. Throughout my secondary schooling, I never considered a career in such an industry; instead I focused my studies on a career in information technology. I found that this was not the challenge that I was looking for and so I took the drastic step of moving from an office job and throwing myself in the deep end by joining a team on a Cray fishing vessel. I love the marine life style and would never look back.
Aiming towards working on offshore support vessels sparked my career change to something I never imagined would be of such interest to me, so in order to achieve the objectives I want in life I qualified for marine certifications, presenting myself as a strong candidate to future employers in the industry.

Crayfishing - Deckhand & General Maintenance
N L Dawe & Co
General Deckhand in the day to day operation of a professional Cray fishing Vessel, including engine maintenance (oil changes, fuel filter servicing, belts/hydraulic servicing etc), Jet and propeller maintenance along with overall cleaning of the vessel (deck cleaning, bilge cleaning etc).
During the off-season I was involved with the maintenance of the vessel whilst being on a dry-dock. This included hull inspections, repainting of anti-foul, cleaning the jet system and sanding of the propeller.
Onshore duties consisted of general pot building/repairing, rope maintenance (creating new float and rope rigs using splicing and combination of knots) and general maintenance of the tender vessel (dingy).
Strengths and Achievements:
Whilst at sea I was given the opportunity to drive both jet and prop vessels, engaging in anchoring, mooring operations and general pulling of pots (manoeuvring the vessel in tight situations, around other vessels and also around shallow reef).
I am very reliable and able to understand and comprehend tasks in a quick and efficient manner. Whether working within in a team or independently I am flexible and multi-skilled.

Ambrosia Quality Foods
After Completing Certificate 2 in Business through a traineeship program offered by CCI (Chamber of Commerce) on site at Ambrosia, I then remained with the company for another 6 months.
My duties consisted of Office Administration (extensively using MYOB, Excel, Multi-line phone systems, sales and book keeping).
When my general duties gave me any spare time I helped out in the factory, helping with deliveries and re-stocking of large fridges, freezers and under taking stock control procedures.
Strengths and Achievements:
Within the job role at Ambrosia I was able to work off my own initiative whilst still maintaining my key objective in team situations. I am very computer literate and I pride myself on my ability to learn quickly and work efficiently with given tasks.
I was a very conscientious employee and always keen on taking on new challenges, for instance in my own time after I finished my duties, I would work on the company website.
