I am exploring a career in art therapy and am interested in empowering women and children and enabling them to connect with themselves and others ti become confident, independent and healthy individuals.

In my past position as an art history instructor and art instructor to children ages 2-15 I have experience working with children of all ages, abilities and temprements. The most rewarding experience is when a child can choose to express themselves through various materials, colors and subject matter. I am most encouraged when children who are afraid to draw or are nervous about their artistic skills can overcome this fear. Keimin was 10 and was convinced he couldn't draw, now he attends classes regularly and has learned to really enjoy the process and made new friends doing it. I have really seen his confidence level gone up and it is really inspiring and great to see him not being so afraid. Another student, Lin Cheng, is very emotional and loud in the class but he creates very expressive artwork and art class is his favorite activity. It is great to see the children so happy and to hear them singing while they work.

I would like to combine my love of art, learning and people in a career that is stimulating, helpful and rewarding.

My Artists Corner Studio Assistant

"My Artists Corner" Director of Submissions, Studio Assistant

An art studio for people living with mental illness that provides a space for community, interaction and positive expression in a welcoming environment.

My volunteer experience with CMHA at "My Artists Corner" or MAC, was a great experience to see adults coming together as friends and creating something together, being social and have the self esteem and the confidence to continue their art practice. It is often reported as being a relaxing activity and is something they are proud of. My favorite days at MAC were learning new techniques and planning for the annual exhibit. Everyone had to work together to make art, prepare the art for display and sell the artist cards. This was a culmination of all the great work and it was a wonderful experience to meet the people in the group and to be a part of it. I would discuss the art work, provide encouragement and inspiration by introducing new artists and new materials at the studio.
