Development is primarily done in Java, with an emphasis on semantic analysis techniques to accurately find and interpret information embedded in a range of different types of documents.

I am looking for a new role due to some potential changes that may take the company in a direction that are less interesting to me.

PayPoint Mobile and Online (now Capita Pay360)

I was responsible for all aspects of technology for a digital payments firm, that was a subsidiary of PayPoint plc and was acquired by Capita in January 2016.   We processed over 100 million payments a year (consumer spend over £4.5billion) to an uptime of 99.99%, and provide support to approximately 4,000 merchants. 

Scope of role: product development, IT strategy and roadmap, service management, IT operations and infrastructure, network, 1st, 2nd and 3rd line technical support to clients.

Team: 26 staff + 'nearshore' developer partner + several product suppliers

Budget:  £3.5m (people related) + £1m (technology)

Dev Toolchain:  Java 8, Spring, Angular.js, Obj-C, PHP, Git/GitHub/Stash, Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, TestFlight, CocoaPods, JIRA, Confluence, HipChat

  • Removed barriers between ops and dev teams, and began DevOps transformation

Technology Review and Programme Mobilisation (Consultant)

PayPoint asked for an independent review of how best to achieve consolidation of transaction switches used across their retail and e-comm businesses.  I reviewed the e-comm platform renewal programme that was underway but significantly late, conducted a market assessment of potential commercially available transaction switches and provided recommendations for completing the programme and reduce duplicated infrastructure between the business units.  At the end of this assignment, I was asked to join the management team to implement my proposals.

Bestinvest // a consulting assignment as an independent consultant

Bestinvest, a medium sized retail investment firm, had entered into a strategic relationship with SEI for asset management.  I provided IT programme management to  integrate SEI’s platform into their systems, launch a share-dealing service for the first time, and build a new retail consumer website for execution-only clients.

Technologies:  C#, ASP.Net, SQL Server, FileMaker.

I worked with the Council’s IT Director to plan and shape a transformation programme following insourcing of the IT team.  The programme included construction of a new data centre; introduction of new working practices and a full restructuring of the IT team.

Barclays Wealth // a consultancy assignment by Chaucer Consulting

Barclays Wealth had acquired an offshore fiduciary firm.  I led the operations and IT work-stream of the programme that integrated the acquired business with Barclays' existing offshore operations in the Channel Islands and Isle-of-Man.  The project affected over 400 people across both organisations and several external systems suppliers.

I worked as a member of a small team assembled by Barclays Wealth to conduct a structured market assessment of BPO providers for wealth management.  The aim of the assessment was to determine whether to outsource aspects of Barclays Wealth back-office functions.

Cheque Processing Project Rescue (Consultant)

iPSL // a consulting assignment by ItemPlus Consulting

iSPL, a cheque processing utility owned by most of the UK retail banks in partnership with Unisys, needed a new project manager to deliver a significantly late and problematic major project for one of iPSL's client banks.  I repaired the relationship with the client (which was near to termination) and worked with them to restructure and focus the project, which was successfully delivered in Feb 2006.

Following the success of an earlier acquisition and integration project, I was asked by Barclays to consult on the integration of a recently acquired discretionary stockbroking business.  I helped to structure the IT work stream, led some early integration project work and delivered an options analysis for deeper integration of the acquired IT systems with Barclay's own platforms.
