Have served as Press Chair, 1st Vice President, and Fundraising Chair. Have created programs and invited speakers that highlighted issues central to 2012 election victories; created fundraisers to help fund club activities and candidate contributions; posted event listings to local press and performed community outreach and coalition building.

Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee

The Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee is the governing body of the County Democratic Party as defined in the California Government Code and Election Code. It is comprised of local Democrats elected by voters in each Assembly District, as well as partisan-level Democratic elected officials and nominees.  This group conducts the County Party's general business, approves its budget, coordinates Democratic campaign activity, and endorses candidates for local offices.

Helped create messaging through leaflets and mailers in order to move state employees to join AFSCME. Coordinated mass mailings; used digital photography skills; wrote press releases and advisories. Created visuals that got the point across quickly while letting workers know that their jobs should be safe, secure, and respected.

While working for this issue-advocacy organization, received consistently positive news coverage: Over 60 TV hits, 33 radio hits, and 32 print hits. Worked closely with the local press and established good relationships, which resulted in reporters calling when they needed a personal story, research, or our organization's viewpoint on issues in the news. Worked as a spokesperson and coached coworkers on talking points. Taught the community to advocate for themselves. Out of 12 locations nationwide, South Bend office received 68% of all television coverage.

Friends of Livermore No On Measure D

Led grassroots organization to victory against Pardee Homes, a subsidiary of Weyerhauser. We received 72% of the vote and prevented their ballot initiative from passing, despite their 3.5 million dollar campaign. Coordinated with the campaigns of the mayor, vice-mayor, and a council candidate; won all those seats.

Kerry Grassroots Campaign

Led Meetup meetings; did phonebanking and canvassing; held voter registration drives; did tabling; held fundraisers and house parties; and formed coalition with progressive groups in Orange County and Los Angeles. Starting with only 10 volunteers, expanded the grassroots database to over 1000 volunteers and donors by the time I was hired by the campaign. Had a high rate of volunteer retention by delegating leadership roles to them.

Objective

My objective is to continue working with the press or working for a nonprofit while working on important issues such as universal healthcare, equal rights, and veterans' issues.

Interest

Enjoy mentoring teenagers and college students and have volunteered for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in Orange County, California, and Pierce County, Washington.

Also deeply passionate about the uninsured crisis, women's healthcare issues, and veterans' issues.
