5th Grade Teacher/Mathematics Interventionist
Horry County Schools
I began working for Horry County Schools as a substitute teacher while still attending college. After earning my teaching certficate, I began working as a Math Interventionist where I was responsible for pulling small groups of various aged students. While I was working as an interventionist, I implemented both the Number Worlds program as well as the Everyday Mathematics program. I was then hired to teach fifth grade where I had numerous responsiblities. Not only was I responsible for daily attendance, lunch and breakfast counts, the Anti-Bullying Committee, but the entire fifth grade curriculum as well. I incorporated the use of technology daily with my students and also created many assessments, powerpoints, and taught to the individual needs of my students. Each school that I have taught in has been a Title I school, which means that school has a higher rate of students in poverty. I have a passion for working in such environments because I feel that I am able to make a connection and inspire those students. I resigned in March 2013 in order to move for my husband's job. I am very eager to get back into teaching and reaching out to students to help them succeed.
