Communications/Fundraising Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications and fundraising plan to advance Heifer Foundation's brand identity and revenue; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs and benefits across spectrum that encompasses a global audience.
  • Create marketing/public relations and fundraising strategy that will allow leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted external audiences, including donors, media and key influencers
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team, staff and Board of Trustees to recognize communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them
  • Serve as communications counselor to leadership team, including media crisis management

Communications/Fundraising Operations

  • Oversees all advertising, marketing and public relations related to the Foundation including digital/online communications, social media, major donor events, marketing collateral and direct marketing
  • Oversees all fundraising and gift processing
  • Creates and stewards partnerships with donors and organizations
  • Facilitates turn-key major events (award ceremonies, fundraisers, community-awareness functions) from planning stages to impact results
  • Creation of all marketing campaigns, branding and design elements
  • Online/digital efforts include:
    • managing organization's website at including all online giving initiatives
    • implementation and management of Google Adwords and Google Analytics including text and banner ads; also obtained Google Grant for Foundation receiving up to $10k per month in free Google Ads;  implements tracking techniques within Google Analytics to measure outcomes and behaviors
    • e-marketing including weekly e-newsletter, email blasts
    • management of online community through social media services with Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Vimeo, YouTube
    • donor stories video production to promote across all areas of online marketing 
    • researching new technology to stay on top of trends in the digital industry
    • Incorporate tracking systems to measure success of all aforementioned mediums.
  • Creative, technical and correspondence writing for feature stories, ad copy, donor communications, e-newsletters, website content, talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed.
  • Oversees donor database 
  • Manages donor analytics performing demographic overlays from third party vendors such as Acxiom to study behavior and donor giving capacity; also utilizes Wealth Engine online service to research current and new donors.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization
  • Manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding programs, special events, public announcements, and other news releases
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning and staff development
  • Promote partnerships with other leading non-profit entities to work together in our similar missions
  • Manages yearly Communication's budget of approximately $400,000 - $1,000,000
  • Serves as speaker/presenter for organization at seminars, conventions and other public functions

Team Development/Management

  • Recruit and manage a communications and fundraising team to support the development and execution of the communications and fundraising strategies

Promotion of self as singer/songwriter/performer through all marketing mediums including television, radio, print and online/digital media (website, social media, e-marketing)

  • Wrote, performed, produced, engineered and designed two full-length CDs of original music available on iTunes
  • Negotiated original song and recording to appear in a full-length movie, "Come Early Morning" released worldwide featuring Ashley Judd and included release on a movie soundtrack with other artists such as Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Merle Haggard.
  • Participates in celebrity interaction through musical appearances, supporting parties and events.
  • To date, has booked and performed approximately 3,500 live shows and has been showcased at events, i.e King Biscuit Blues Festival, Arkansas Blues Festival, Fort Smith Riverfront Blues Festival, Arkansas' Riverfest and Arkansas Educational Television Network's Front Row Live (30-minute concert broadcast statewide)

    • National sporting events for the “Original Toughman Contest” averaging 10 shows per year and coordination of the “Toughman World Championships” with Showtime pay-per-view television at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, NJ
  • Conducted media relations by obtaining press coverage through statewide and national press conferences, media tours, interviews, press releases and performing media crisis management.
  • Purchasing and placement of advertising for TV, radio, newspaper and magazines in several U.S. markets
