In September I started a new position in B&Q Coatbridge, initially applying for a checkout staff position after sitting in on my interview my manager from the Showroom department requested I be brought into her team as she was impressed with my people skills and confidence. I thoroughly enjoy working with the staff in B&Q and like being part of a large team of people with varied skills and knowledge. I am currently only on an 8 hour per week contract that consists usually of an 8 hour shift or 2 four hour shifts.

Working in the showroom department requires me to be educated on the products we sell and as a result I have a vast bank of knowledge on the ranges of kitchens, appliances, bathrooms and bedroom products that are sold in many DIY stores. Generating sales leads, booking appointments with designers,answering and directing customer calls, checking stock and being trained on how to use new design software are some of my everyday tasks. Remaining professional is important as large sums of money are being spent each day and I must always be up to date on any promotional offers and finance schemes the company offers as these are subject to change. My current position also allows me to make commission on any sales I pass which is a great bonus.  I have completed modules on health and safety when using warehouse machinery such as pallet trucks, Think 21 when selling restricted items and finance for checking if a customer is able to take out a finance deal when purchasing a kitchen, bedroom or bathroom. I also take up overtime opportunities in other areas of the store such as checkouts, again using my previous skills from my former job and late night replenishment shifts to further familiarise myself with the store and be able to direct customers to products outwith my department.

I have over a year work experience in a busy shop environment which allowed me to develop my customer service skills. I was fully till trained and as a result I am comfortable when dealing with transactions, exchanges and refunds efficiently. Various duties were expected of me during my time at this company such as Replenishment Of Stock, General Cleaning and Maintenance of the store, Visual Merchandising of stock, which in particularly was one of my strengths. I enjoyed having the task of creating aesthetically pleasing displays to maximise sales and was regularly given this responsibility. Handling customer queriesin a professional and diplomatic way and Promoting the shop and its products at every opportunity.

During my time at the store I learned the importance of good customer service, meeting sales targets and working as part of a well established team. Skills I plan to display in all future positions whilst constantly learning new ways to perform to the best of my ability.

I am a creative individual with years of sales experience within various retail environments, understanding the importance of superior customer service when representing a brand or company. I believe I possess initiative when carrying out tasks and I am very customer focused. Some of my strengths include a keen eye for fashion and emerging trends, displaying positive relationship building skills and the power to act or think spontaneously. 


St Andrews High School 

I studied at St Andrews High School in Coatbridge, aside from my academic qualifications I achieved here it also moulded and shaped me into the person I am today due to constant support from teachers and peers.
