Shahnawaz along with a group of likeminded people and one Independent film maker, started a Foundation called Ahwaan Foundation in 2006. The objective of the foundation was to organise 'Short Film Festivals' and generate money for establishment of Ahwaan Foundation for 2 campaigns

Ahwaan Bal Mukti Andolan - Campaign Against Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children.

Udaan - Education Project for Underprivileged Children

In 2006 & 2007 Shahnawaz along with the team organised Short Film Festivals - Ahwaan Cine festival (10 minute duration) which got good media traction. The group at that time were operating out of a small room in India Habitat Centre. Within Ahwaan, Shahnawaz also was a part from this the Theatre team which organised various plays across the North India.
