Application for: Internship during the period 2.2-29.3. 2017 (Wk 6-13)

Dear Pueblo A Pueblo company,

Pueblo A Pueblo is an outstanding organisation having been recognized for its great work with health,  food security and education of families of rural communities in Guatemala.

It is of strong interest to me the School Health and Nutrition Program. Especially the School Nutrition project which supports rural primary schools in bringing food education and cooking skills and the Organic School Gardens to empower the community by teaching children to grow their own vegetables whilst delivering nutritious meals at local schools.

I am a Bachelor student in Global Nutrition and Health at Metropolitan University College in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Bachelor's Degree in Global Nutrition and Health is a 3 ½ years higher education program leading to a professional bachelor's degree. I was wondering if there is any opportunity to either be involved in a small part of the work you conduct, or whether there is opportunity to seek work experience or analytical expertise with you or others in your organisation.

I am able to understand and interpret various dietary guidelines and I am in a position to explain their importance to the general public and vulnerable target groups. Furthermore, I have insight into how to assess nutritional needs depending on the individuals situation and I can give scientific based advice for improving their health balance with an appropriate nutrients intake. I can use proficiently excel for data collection and analysis and making anthropometric  measurements.

I have recently took part to the Global Women Deliver conference in Copenhagen, where I was helping the organization to make reports of the various sessions. The focus of the conference was on how to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, with a specific focus on health – in particular maternal, sexual, and reproductive health and rights of women and girls– and on gender equality, education, environment, and economic empowerment.

By joining Pueblo A Pueblo I want to learn and practice more by making on-field experience next to a team of professionals, practicing health promotion and helping the community to become more healthy with a proper intake of micro and macro-nutrients and with cooking skills, for a better chance of living and growing healthy.  I would also like the opportunity to cooperate and help with colleagues about community gardening and permaculture.

With my current education, which is an international program and the specific course about intercultural communication I can easily connect, communicate and cooperate with people coming from very different backgrounds and culture. My knowledge of the English language and Spanish would be a great support for communicating more effectively with you and I'm willing to learn about the local culture and language to facilitate and making more engaging my work.

I expect to fund my own travel and accommodation expenses and so there would be no need for additional funds from your organisation.

I would appreciate the opportunity to contact you personally for a very brief meeting. I am available to talk on Skype as soon as convenient for you. Thanks for your time and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Yours sincerely,
