I'm a cultural industries manager who for the past five years has been at the forefront of developing and strengthening Nova Scotia’s music industry through a variety of projects and programs aimed at putting our artists in the global spotlight. l strive to help great artists reach their potential and surpass expectations.

Event and Member Training Manager

Music Nova Scotia
  • Logistics, planning, management, and execution of all Music Nova Scotia event properties, including Molson Canadian Nova Scotia Music Week (NSMW), a four-day festival of music, showcasing (over 100 performances), a 2-day educational conference, international buyer’s program, awards brunch and Gala Awards show.
  • Assisted Executive Director with development and implementation of event budgets - proven track record of delivering projects on or under budget.
  • Development and programming of international VIP buyers program; networking, outreach and communications to international music industry professionals from diverse markets such as U.S.A, United Kingdom, and continental Europe
  • Planning and execution of all showcasing festival components, including intake of submissions, jurying, programming, contracting, etc.
  • Planning and execution of awards system and jurying
  • Development, planning and execution of volunteer management system, including software (150+ volunteers)
  • Oversight and communications with local host community political and business community leaders  for NSMW- management of roles, deliverables,, hospitality, volunteer procurement, transportation systems and logistics, etc.
  • Management of 2 staff positions (Festival Coordinator, Conference Coordinator/Volunteer Manager), along with a  nine member team. Oversight of marketing and communications strategies
  • Oversight of all sound production, logistics, and RFPs with assistance from Technical Director, including festival showcasing (85+ performances, Songs and Stories (Songwriter’s circle), and the Gala Awards Show
  • Planning, execution and management of all export event properties, including the annual Music Nova Scotia sponsored showcase stages at Canadian Music Week (Toronto), The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), East Coast Music Week, Milwaukee Irish Fest, Celtic Connections (Scotland), etc.
  • Planning and management of all educational/member training initiatives at Music Nova Scotia, including content management of members’ education library (online and physical), monthly streamed seminars and workshops, conference content for NSMW, and one-on-one consultation services for members.
  • Planning, execution, programming and management of weekly event properties on behalf of, and in association with sponsorship partner (Casino Nova Scotia Halifax, and Sydney - New Music Fridays, and New Music Saturdays).

    • PROs (focus on SOCAN; roles, responsibilities, licensing and enforcement mechanisms and reporting and payment), 
    • music publishing companies & (rights, roles, corporate structure, types of deals), 
    • music supervision companies, 
    • music publishing and synchronization contracts (incl. terms, clauses and negotiation),
    •  commercial “jingle” and commissioned music, and 
    •  an examination of modern songwriting regional markets (focus on Nashville, LA, and NYC).

      Part-time professional bass player for Matt Mays, and various other east coast artists.

      Music Director for the Halifax Urban Folk Fest (HUFF), leading and performing groups to support artists such as Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Alejandro Escovedo, David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven), Chuck Prophet, Dwight Twilley, and Garland Jeffereys.

      • Duties and roles included: General Manager, Booking Agent, Publicist, Grant Writer, Contract Negotiator (international licensing and distribution agreements), artist
      • Developed and implemented budgets for a variety of projects and campaigns, as well as yearly operations.
      • Secured over $282000 in grant funding for a variety of national and international projects
      • Managed artist teams to implement national and international promotional campaigns, including publicists, booking agents, distributor/sales agents, and radio promoters.
      • Oversaw the booking of performance dates for several nation-wide tours
      • Implemented national publicity campaigns
      • Negotiated international licensing and distribution agreements for album releases
      • Artist manager to Moncton, New Brunswick based country-rockers The Divorcees, who were nominated for a 2007 East Coast Music Award and performed on the televised ECMA broadcast on CBC.
