Spent a summer at Dauphin Island Sea Lab taking Marine Invertebrate Zoology and Marine Invertebrate Zoology:

  • Learned, practiced and executed many field techniques involved in collecting and keying many spp. of fish as well as the techniques involved with fishing, trawling and long-lining on a fishing vessel - safety precautions included
  • Used our observational/critical thinking skills needed to seek out and identify vertebrates/invertebrates as well as problem-solving ecological questions related to their history, niche, ecology, environment etc.

Assisted Dr. Jan Gryko with his Gulf Oil Spill Research (ongoing) in the Spring of 2013:

  • Walked me through every step of the experimental process.
  • Helped write up some of the Abstract and assisted with the processes of filtration, extraction and chromatography analysis.
  • Sat in on Dr. Gryko's workshop of building some scientific instruments from scratch.
