Care Advocate

UnitedHealth Group

The Care Advocacy function, which in the healthcare industry is more commonly referred to as Case Management or Utilization Management, involves serving as a telephonic liaison between contracted healthcare providers and Optum, a managed care organization of UnitedHealth Group. Duties include conducting concurrent utilization review of services delivered and coordinating escalation of cases to physician-physician peer review. The position requires adherence to industry standards of care, guidelines of accrediting agencies such as the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission, rules and regulations promulgated by administrative agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other legislatively enabled oversight authorities. Care Advocates interact with internal & external customers throughout the continuum of health-related services including such levels of healthcare as inpatient hospitalization, temporary observation, rehabilitation, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and other traditional outpatient services.

Central Access Clinician

DeKalb Regional Crisis Center

The Dekalb Regional Crisis Center provides stabilization services to residents of the region and is one of the direct health services delivered by the Dekalb Community Service Board. In a public-private partnership with a division of the Georgia Department of Health, the Central Access Clinician, which in the community service board system is more commonly referred to as Social Service Provider, involves functioning as a telephonic liaison between consumers of health services and the healthcare providers offering services within the catchment area of Dekalb County, Georgia. Duties include recommendations and referrals to the continuum of health-related services including such levels of healthcare as observation, stabilization, intensive outpatient, and other traditional outpatient services.

Summary

         Seam Drakon earned his Paralegal Certificate at Emory University and is currently seeking a full-time opportunity as a Paralegal in the Metro-Atlanta or Athens area.  As part of his training in the legal field, Seam Drakon has Interned at the Law Office of Cynthia James in Winder, Georgia.  During his Internship, Seam has received instruction under the supervision of a Licensed Attorney, Paralegal and Legal Assistant.  Mr. Drakon has participated in drafting court documents and organization of discovery.  He has liaised with offices of the Georgia Superior Court Judges in Barrow and Jackson Counties, as well as the District Attorney, Magistrate Court, et al.  Seam has skills in using Westlaw and familiarity with legal software including Clio, Lexis Time Map, Lexis Web, inData Trial Director.  Seam is fully proficient with use of internet, MS Windows, and MS Office (including extra skills with use of MS Access).  Seam is highly detail oriented and produces thorough documentation.  Seam Drakon is also a Registered Civil Mediator through the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, which is a Judicial Council of the State of Georgia whose members are appointed by the Georgia Supreme Court.

         Seam Drakon gained his initial training in healthcare through his experiences as an Intern and Paraprofessional at such organizations as Positive Impact, a company that provides services for individuals living with HIV.  Seam later interned at The Hospice Atlanta Center and at The Anxiety and Stress Management Institute.  The Hospice Atlanta Center provides palliative care for individuals diagnosed with a terminal condition and some of the services provided by Seam at The Hospice Center Atlanta included assessment, brief therapy, and bereavement counseling.  At the Anxiety and Stress Management Institute, Mr. Drakon assessed and provided psychotherapy for the health of individuals and families who came to the center for behavioral treatment.  In 1985, Seam Drakon became an Eagle Scout.  For his Eagle Project, Seam submitted an initial proposal to the Troop Sponsor for basic property renovations in compliance with ADA guidelines and he led group of Scouts in the initial implementation of these renovations.  Seam participated in the 26th Marine Corps Marathon in 2001, using the interval Run/Walk method developed by Olympic Medalist Jeff Galloway.  Seam Drakon now serves his community as a supporter of AIDS Walk Atlanta and the Wounded Warrior Project.
