Stephen Downen has been formally studying voice for 8 years, but has been singing his eniter life. Currently, he is currently on full scholarship and takes applied lessons at Brevard Community College from Mark Baker, a former Metropolitan Opera star. Stephen regularly sings throughout the community, and has been contracted numerous times. His most recent employers include Faith Viera Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Episcopalian (Titusville, FL), and Merritt Island Presbyterian Church. Stephen often sings at weddings and funerals, and has appeared in several states. He currently sings with the B.C.C. Concert Choir, the B.C.C. Madrigals Ensemble, the M.I.P.C. Choir, and is a featured soloist in many other groups. Groups Stephen has been in include the Brevard Chorale, the Disney Candlelight Processional Choir, and the Space Coast Oratorio Society.
Stephen has been honored many times for vocal excellence. Recently, he was a soloist and choir member in the Florida Community College Activities Association elite choir. In middleschool and high school, Stephen participated in the FMEA All-State chorus 6 times, even holding a spot in the elite Sight-Reading Choir. Other awards in high school include numerous superior ratings at both state and district level festivals, numerous outstanding student awards from M.I.C.S., the Association for Christian Schools International Leadership in Fine Arts awards, and many others. Stephen has been invited to sing in numerous international tours, and has been honored by various elite groups. He has studied and worked with some of the best conductors and coaches in the business, including the following: Grammy award-winning Dr. Charles Bruffy (Phoenix Chorale/ Kansas City Singers), Dr. Andre Thomas (FSU), Dr. John Sinclair (Rollins College), Mark Baker (B.C.C), Dr. David Brunner (UCF), Dr. Robert Lamb (B.C.C), Dr. Cara Tasher (UNF), and many others. Stephen has performed with other mainstream artists also, including Sandi Patti and Michael W. Smith.
